Murray Nets for Swindon
Murray Nets for Swindon
Tuesday, 6th Dec 2011 22:42

Striker Ronan Murray netted the first goal of his loan spell at Swindon to help the Robins to beat Southend 2-1 at Roots Hall and see them into the southern area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy where they will meet Barnet.

Murray, who is with the Wiltshire club for a month, came on as a sub on 80 and netted the winner with a header two minutes later.

Robins boss Paolo Di Canio was pleased with the 20-year-old’s brief performance: “He arrived in the box at a good moment and did well. He attacked the space in the right way and got his reward with the goal. He came on and did well.”

The Irish striker later tweeted his congratulations to the Town academy side: "Buzzin' we are through! And well done Ipswich U18s on their win!"

up the town4

why get him back? He comes back while Paul Jewell still rates Chopra and Scotland better and all he does is sit on bench/reserves, if he stays out he gets games and goals which is vital experience. Feel sorry for Jewell, he keeps him and doesnt play him you moan, he sends him out on loan for valuable experience you moan, and if he were to play him and he has a shocker cause he isnt ready and we get another run of defeats you moan and he probably gets fired. Its a lose lose lose situation with people like you isnt it?

Big Foot Blue:the only moan I have about Jewell and Murray is thet jewell wont play him or for that matter Hyam they both seem to want to play for itfc but even given the terrible run of results they dont get game time and yet we need their energy and stamina in the game, our present side wether you like it or not is just to old, ok pj has brought in carson and martins back but scotland is,nt exactly the most manoverable (sorry about the spelling)

Murray and Hyam are not (yet) showing enough to be ready for the Ipswich first team. I saw Hyam earlier in the season and he was absolutely awful, so it may do more harm than good to put them in our first team now especially when we are in such poor form. I am sure Jewell will may youngsters if and when they are ready, as he has already done with Wickham, Carson and Cresswell.

If he's doing so well, why doesn't Di Canio use him for 90 minutes?

If he is good enough for our first team why does he only play 10 minutes in a cup game ? Did he play in the league on Saturday ?

agree with others on here, a definate prospect but if he is so ready for playing in the championship according to some on here, how come the lad only got ten minutes in the mickey mouse cup? I would like to see him on line until the end of the season, let him grow at that level and be ready for a full pre season and hopefully first team place next year.

Surco - he played 64 minutes on Saturday, brought on as an "early tactical change" by Di Canio (Swindon Town website's words). Also played 40 mins the previous week, including an assist for Swindon's first goal. Has featured in every game since joining on loan, tho off the bench every time.

Hopefully he's learning some good (footballing) lessons from the old Fascisti and building his confidence.

He has only been used as a sub for swindon because he has lacked match fitness. cant stay match fit if hes in the reserves and only playing a friendly game every three weeks or so..... well done to him!
