Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

Obviously very disappointing news. HOWEVER. These players realise that in the Summer they can walk away from Peterborough and pocket the 2million currentlly offered to their club, in signing-on fees. Therefore, unless a club are prepared to pay silly money in wages, they could just run down thier contracts and get rich. This is probably why they aren't agreeing terms. If that is the case do we want these players doing the same to us?

There is something very sad about our present situation ,I surpose part of me was hoping we would not still be trawling around looking for new additions to the squad at this late stage of the transfer window, I hope we have learnt from previous seasons desperate last ditch signings but I'm afraid this feels all too familiar.

A very interesting post Exeterblu and some sensible equations, my only response being "why would we pay for their medicals or even be talking to them if we had sounded out their demands beforehand" ??

Yes, yes...Sorry to disappoint those of you who persist in thinking that pros play for anything other than hard cash. They kiss the badge of the club that offers the biggest bucks and in a short career, why not?

Have read all the posts and ITFCOYB has it right. In fact, entirely right. Only thing that I would add is as others have said, let's wait for the official news before we tear management to pieces for something that we are speculating about. Whatever happens, we're doomed if we don't get behind the team - and don't forget, that's the team that just beat our bogey team away and had us all dreaming about topping the table!!!

with Clegg around (our very own Olympic legacy or relic) no deal will be easy to conclude. Saw him in the posh seats, no not at London Road, but at the Olympic Stadium 3 weeks ago looking very pompous but clearly not interested in the track event going on - a bit like PR

A good point roytheboy. I can only think that this was done as a due to the time constraints of the imminent transfer deadline. Waste of time money it they turned out to be though...

I also thin k that it is a sign of desperation that Jewell broke his usual rule on transfers and mentioned these. He was desperate for some good news regarding transfers (as we all are) but it may have rather backfired. We will see I guess - I still have my fingers crossed that a few deals will be sorted out by midnight on Friday !! The eternal optimist :)
