Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

WHAT A F*****G JOKE!!! we are an absolute shambles, it's not just the once this is every single time we go for someone, who is responsible? Evans not putting his money where his mouth is or have Clegg or Jewell blown it? This is not good enough don't ever remember a transfer falling through with Sheepshanks at the club!!

I hate to say this BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.........................................

"All we now need to hear is that the deal has fallen through at the 11th hour!....."

This was the quote I posted earlier this afternoon under the headline

"Posh duo passed their medicals"

I was close when I said at the 11th hour wasn't I ?!

I really don't know what to say anymore but this has been a whole summer of transfer traversy for ITFC!!

If we had signed half our reported targets we would have a decent sized squad capable of challenging but now its going to be a long run til the new year I seriously fear now :-(

Not bothered at all, sorry. I don't think these two were a great fit. And we should not overpay.

This really does go to show how self righteous Club owners are, across the game...how there isn't really a united relationship between the board and the manager... how PJ isn't to blame in any way to be honest. I'd expect to see far more join the "Clegg Out" brigade now rather than the misinformed "Jewell Out". Paying £31 for my ticket on Saturday...where does this money go

Our Defence is terrible,, i aint gotta clue why we haven't got any decent defenders in yet,, its the position we struggled in last season and jewell still hasn't done anything about it, blackpool hit us for 6 at the weekend and there are much stronger team in the league than them, just feel this should of been sorted out sooner, not leaving it until the last 2 days and getting turned down by players,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Bigolconnor. You talk shiiitte!!! If you're happy with whats happening then you must come from north of the border. I doubt also you actually pay to go and see the town, otherwise you too would be frustrated. Fans are entitled to be unhappy with whats happening at Ipswich, and by venting this frustration if Evans were to read these messages; he might change his tactics. So keep your idiotic thoughts to your self.

If all the deals we have been linked with became signings we would have a 60 man squad. But no we probs have the smallest squad in the league and are losing to sides 6-0 all my hopes for the new season has gone. :c

Phil can we get rid of that Boyd photo it's doing my head in, he just looks so smug and conceited. The real thing is I think this might run on till tomorrow afternoon but I dont want either of these players at our club.

"greedy buggers" how very dare they turned down £5 a week and a packet of cheese and onion!!!!!!!

casanovacrow added 00:07 - Aug 30
bottom line is these two like most footballers these days are greedy, especially when they have a parasite of a agent egging them on. The same type of player who is lazy and selfish on the pitch, just in it for the pay cheque.

Well done ME and Clegg for not allowing us to getting bullied into gambling our clubs financial stability by players greed. I wish more clubs put their feet down like that.

2million is overpriced for 2 players with only a year left on their contract and no intention of renewing anyway.

IMHO bullet dodged.

I hope they run their contracts down and they have to settle for same terms next time.

This club is in dire meltdown due to Simon Clegg.

Clegg Out.

This is extremely disappointing but we don't know both sides of the story yet. We have to be competitive but not be held to ransom. Have to feel sorry for PJ this week.

Are we mean't to be surprised by this? This would have been a fantastic coup for the club, in reality these days did we really expect this deal to go through. Was very excited by the prospect. As someone else stated would have been done when Sheepshanks was at the helm. If we are not going to sign players then we need to go to youth, but then we give the likes of Jordan Rhodes away aswell. Absolute shambles.

I just don't think we can afford to pay as much in wages as other clubs - even one's the size of ours. Doesn't bode well for the future, does it.

My gripe is the fact that we made it blatantly public. If we'd kept this quiet there wouldn't be half the backlash we've just had. Now we'll probably lose fans for the next home game who will boycott to vent their anger, which is more revenue lost.

Personally I don't blame the club. They were probably holding us for ransom with no intention to come here for football reasons. Good luck to them at Posh (who will be finishing around with us at the end of the season I'm sure).

No go spend that £1.5m on a quality CB and stop the rot. The clock is ticking.

Get real guys. Clegg and Evans want this deal to happen as much as all of us but they also know how much we can afford. In the end if there are unrealistic or unaffordable expectations from the players then we just can't do a deal. Ask any Portsmouth fan what they would prefer. Live within their means in the Championship or go bust and see their club disappear through mismanagement ,I know what the answer will be. If we can't do a deal we have to move on.

Speechless on our completely inept administration to seal the deal on this one. Imagine its not PJs fault, Clegg will have to take the blame, but are we really becoming that unpopular / that uncompetetive in wages that we cant manage to get these to guys?? i find that unbelieveable. Its ok and i am completely in agreement with the financial restrictions, but we do actually need 11 decent players on the pitch every week to (one day) stand a chance of promotion. Realistically, now its down to a couple of loan signings and a mid-table finish. Im not a PJ fan, but this isnt his fault. Clegg needs to do one.

To top it all off, watch them sign for Middlesboro on Friday morning.

Tuesday - squad too small and lacking in quality - 3 days left to sign someone
Wednesday - 2 in from Posh and Murphy again linked. Stevenson seems to be offloaded before deal done - result deal falls through for Boyd & Taylor, Stevenson on way out and we are 1 further player down - Absolute Genius.
