Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

Total fcukin joke

When did we manage to sign anyone who is quality (with no demons attached ala chopra and Bullard)

Please can someone explained to me why we bother to try and sign anyone if we are not willing to pay the wages!

You've got to be joking, bloody CLEGG strikes again, surely we must have some idea of what these players would be wanting before we even bid? Unbelieveable...... I fear for us, I really do....

Hang on a minute - NEITHER were unable to agree terms? Do they have the same agent? Are they unable to make independent decisions? Things seemed to be so easy before Simon Clegg appeared on the scene: we targeted our man and got him. Now we are just the laughing stock of the division. I really do see us going down this year as we cannot attract the calibre of players to Portman Rd needed to keep us in mid table, let alone go up.

Why would he make this public through twitter? I'm most likely wrong but I believe his playing with the fans, hence his sarcasm on twitter about gaining itfc followers! If true then I hope town improve their personal offers, would love boyd in a town shirt

I reckon Boyds wages were the problem, he's reportedly on over £10k a week with Taylor much nearer £4-5k a week. With Boyds higher wages it might well mean Taylor also wanted higher since negociations were probably occuring together. Either way big shame.

Also I'm starting to think that this was never gonna happen just players using teams to put themselves further in the shop window wich is just wrong. If proven to be the case players such as Austin,Boyd,Taylor and the Portsmouth pair should be fined or have some kind of action taken against them by the f.a they have wasted our time when they could have just said on monday they wer'nt interested instead of wasting the best part of the week just before the window closes. BOYD TAYLOR F***k OFF we want players like Murphy and Loach who wanna be here and not use the media attention surrounding their proposed move to enhance their appeal to other clubs.Should make for an interesting 48hrs or so.COYB.

What's depressing is, you could easily make this up.

Two of the summer's biggest signings and we fail to agree personal terms. F'ing brilliant!

Surely clubs agree fees, then wages before going through with medicals. We must be offering peanuts.

So who next mr jewel.

What happens after plan z?

So if we get someone in now, it will be the person we wanted after the last one turned us down before the one before him turned us down etc etc

I too feel very sorry for Jewell as he gets the players here but Evans won't pay the money. OK it's his money and there is little we can do about it but we will without doubt struggle in this division with what we have when you take into consideration injuries and suspensions that will occur. The squad is way too thin and it looks like the loan market again now. All very frustrating in a very bad week for Ipswich Town.

Ridiculous and that's being kind, funny how it takes a couple of poor results and we suddenly splash the cash and go in for the players we need with two days left of the market too go, very clever that. I obviously dont know the situation but If Evans was a football man this would probably be sealed but he's a typical buisnessmen who will only care about his own finances rather than improving our team which is fine if we're cash strapped but we're not. With the added pressure of agents and player power sometimes you've got too be prepared to accept players demands if you want a successfull football club. Well we've a couple of days now so PJ, Clegg and Evans better get a move on with other targets.
