Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

Been excited about this all day. Unless we sign 3 quality players by Friday I'm worried about the atmosphere at PR on Sat...

I don't know what to say, this has even got Sindre mad.
Now we just look totally fcuking stupid.
I was down last night after losing in the cup, only to feel good again about this deal and now this.
I feel sorry for PJ, Evans sort this mess out, we NEED players and quickly, either back the club properly or sell up and get out and take that good for nothing olympic idiot with you.

Good news. Glad we're living within our means and no longer overpaying for mediocre rubbish.

Some reports saying they have agreed terms and will be unveiled Thurs??Or this could be lazy reporting assuming the deal was going to be successful? Well we know they musn't follow ITFC in the transfer market as it is usually anything but simple!!

Use the Rhodes windfall, pay them an extra few thousand a week.....get them in the side. It would be OK if their was a league salary cap and players knew this....but their isn't and in order to compete and be a genuine contender you need to pay players their "rightful" worth or they will go to other clubs.

I know a premier league centre back who PJ wanted to sign in the summer who ME wouldn't pay the wages. ( he is now at another club in the championship!! ) so Mr Evans is drawing in the purse strings for sure. So I think we long suffering fans have got to accept we are not going to attract it seems now even "decent" championship players to our club , let alone premier league players. Again , is it all PJ's fault? Probably not.

This is beyond a joke now. How many more times does this have to happen until clegg realises you have to give people what they want or else they won't join.

CLEGG OUT

I get the impression that the majority on here were almost wanting these deals to collapse just so they can smugly say I told you so! We do not know how much they were asking for, if they don't wanna play for the club for the right reasons then I'm comfortable with them not being here, if we have a wage structure in place that preserves the financial well being of this club then it should not be broken and I support us not bowing down to the wim of greedy players and agents.

Vital football is say the deal is done and they will sign Thursday morning

Both player have the same agent and it quoted as saying Boyd was on 7k at Posh and was asking for 12k

To be honest Posh have struggled in this division with both of them and are still struggling so I really think we have dodged a bullet as the Posh fans at work have been taking the mick today about Boyd, they did say the would like to keep Taylor but still not fussed if he went

Bugger!! I know you lot want to blame Clegg et al but to be honest we don't know it's Clegg's fault do we. We don't know what demands they made and if these were beyond what the club can afford, if it was then we were right not to go further.

If it's any consolation I'm just a pee'd off as the rest of you, but lets be honest some of these so called footballers are money grabbing ba**ards. As a club we have to ride this out but I think we are now in for a pretty tough season :(

Look Clegg, we know you come on this site. If you want to get 'promoted to the dream land' then if i was you i'd start acting like it. So annoyed yet again....

This is why football is slowly dieing average players expecting wages way beyond what the ordinary fans who follow them earn. Before someone says its a short career, how about getting a job when its all over.
Its time to kick the ego centric owners out and make football a true game of the people who follow it.

This is Fcuking ridiculous! And simply goes to prove the lack of ambition that our tw4t owner and club now have!
For the morons supporting the fact that we are now well within the financial fair play scheme... How about the fact that our club charges us 'supporters' more than most premier clubs to watch this sh1t set-up!
Wish I could get a refund on my season ticket(s)!!!'n

So what. Unless Paul jewell phoned me up and said they were the greatest signings ever but clegg and Evans screwed me/us ( town fans) over I couldn't care less whether these two signed. Not exactly world beaters. We need squad players but not ones who think they can hold us over a barrel. Feck them and all they stand for. I still believe in the TEAM we have. Good bunch of lads who play for each other. COYB

What would be clever about paying two players more than they're worth? Do we want to go into administration again? If we can't afford them, we can't afford them....or put another way, if Marcus Evans doesn't want to spend even more of HIS money on two players, who are we to argue?

The time is here when clubs have to stay within their means, and I think being one of the first to do this will stand us in good stead in a few years' time.

Thats it I've had enough, I've followed Town since 1964 and if this deal is definately failed, then I've had it with Ipswich. I don't believe this is PJ's fault, I truly believe it's that clown Clegg and that excuse of an owner. I thought Evans would save our beloved Ipswich, but he's done anything but. Before the smartarses start quoting the financial mess we were in, I'm talking about football here; thats what we go to see. Since his take over I've had to put up with people taking the P!ss at work because they come from the hell place up the road, this is going to be unbearable. I never like his logo anyway. Please let some nice billionaire who actually knows something about football take over.

Would have thought you would want to see if they players are going to accept terms before wasting time with a medical.

This had fiasco written all over it. How sad.

this is turning into a more than a joke. any other championship team can just seal deals so why cant we. forest have signed almost every player they have gone in for.
im aware this isnt the same as FM and player contracts are a tough business but it is clear we dont have he strength in depth and more class around the place.
please give us something to cheer before friday.

In other words. "ooohhh boo hoo waaaahhh! My beloved town!! Ooooohhhh why!! Whyyyy!! " Bunch of idiots. Who actually cares that we didn't get these two mediocre judas players. stick by the team we have. We as supporters have absolutely no idea what goes on behind scenes. Get on with life and support your team on match days... Or move on.
