Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

what ever the reason I'm glad the deal for these two greedy beggars has fallen through - they simply got wind of the fact that there might be more money at Middlesbrough and they are not the players we need in any case, just another panic buy. The great Ipswich teams were built on the foundation of a defensive rock of centre backs (Beattie and Hunter or Osman and Butcher) and that should be our priority.

This is a bit like a tradesman who doesn't really want the job!!! The players didn't really want to come here but thought they would ask us for radiculas wages just in case. Disappointing but not predictable.

The ET a Peterborough based newspaper is saying on their web site.

Wednesday 16:41 Posh duo reject Ipswich
Thursday 07:20 Fergie has plan in place to replace Posh star who have signed for Ipswich last night.

Don't think this is over yet so don't blame Clegg yet

The report states that the had a medical after the terms had been agreed I think the Posh chairman can't get the replaced and is going to say it was so late on in the transfer window and the deal was too good to turn down.

...... when will the people 'supposedly running this Club' finally realise that 1 to 2 year contracts (and two free Weetabix every morning) is NOT the going rate.

The Club is now well past the point of being a huge joke - if I HAD been silly enough to have purchased a Season Ticket for this season - I would without hesitation now be asking for my money back.

R.I.P. ITFC - a once GREAT CLUB.

Sindre94 - I have truly admired your dedication to this Club with your (often foolish) support - BUT, I think it's fair to say that even you are now seeing it - for what it REALLY is under the current ownership.

The sooner it is completely out of the hands of Evans,Clegg, and Jewell the better.

If these transfers do not materialise then there will be a lot of very disillusioned Ipswich fans, including myself, after the last two results we clearly need reinforcing with some players that want to play for the club, I am not in the least surprised by this announcement and can only hope that more effort will be made to see it through by ITFC, POSH and the two players, we cannot build this club on continual disappointments, both on and off the pitch.

I am personally very disappointed by this news. Whilst it is clear we need a commanding CH in the McAuley / De Vos / Mogga mould, we must still ensure we are in for players who can improve the team whenever they become available. In my opinion Boyd, and to some extent Taylor, would do that. Boyd scores a number of goals from midfield and creates a good percentage of Posh's goals. Can we say the same about messrs Martin and Emmanuel-Thomas? A great player (and hopeless manager) once said that you had to be a great player to wear flourescent boots. Time to revert to traditional black boots Lee and Jay. Hope we can resurrect these deals, assuming their demands aren't ridiculous or that they received a Kevin Phillips style call in the PR car park and want to go elsewhere.

This club is a complete shambles! From the very top to the bottom.
Surely in getting rid of Bullard, Bowyer, Peters etc that freed up enough wages to secure a wage for these two?
I will get slaughtered for saying this but i wish that Evans would leave and take Clegg with him!!!
We were a far far better club before then, ok we were in serious debt but we could have made it out of the debt by now, we were a lovely family club who cared about it fans. We had a fantastic youth set up and the atmosphere around the club was much better.
Make no mistake this club is in serious decline!!!
THATS WHAT YOU GET IM AFRAID WHEN YOU HAVE AN OWNER AND A CEO WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE STRUCTURE AND RUNNING OF A FOOTBALL CLUB.

After being a die hard fan for almost 36 years im begining to loose faith in my club.
I bet im not the only one!!

surco72 was right with his post, we have let slip thats ST Ledger ,Ward ,Pearce, Boyd ,Taylor ,Davies,Koziack along with Sharp, Coppinger, Kuszczak to name a few more.
Although Clegg did manage to sign Chopra and Loach (chops was wanting a fresh start away from his problems and loach wanted to return to the club he supported as a boy)his failings as a negotiator and his lack of football knowledge is costing the club to slip down the league and closer to league 1. I believe Clegg is the main reason for the failings over how the club is being run over two managers and has not been able to support his managers when it comes to getting deals done.
Whilst i was not a fan of Keane the manager, at least he showed passion for the game. What does simon clegg know about football and which team does he support????
I would like to see Clegg out and bring back Sheepshanks to do the Clegg role, he supports the club and has negotiated many transfers and knows the game. anyone for a clegg out chant at the weekend?.....rant over!!

....... the big concern for me - is that some supporters STILL agree with the way the Club is being run.
Absolutely NO HOPE with that being the case - and I am speechless that some people are that naive. But then should I be ??

The Facts are that Clegg has yet again arsed up yet another deal!!

hairbear added 08:45 - Aug 30
why oh why do we continue to target players who we can't afford! We all know we won't pay big wages. Our scouting network is non-existent because we keep going after the same old players.
Clegg has a budget its up to Jewell to identify players that fit into that.
IT IS JEWELLS FAULT!
Jewell OUT!!!!!!!
0

CleggsClangers added 08:49 - Aug 30
We have no idea what went wrong, but there is a pattern. The club is going backwards, nothing Jewell says or does gives me much hope. Clegg is following orders and Evans? Must be wondering why he got involved. These two players like many before, just can't bring themselves to sign! It really is beyond a joke! Something has to change or it's goodbye to this league!

No surprise here but at least we know that there are some funds available that could probably be put to far greater use elsewhere, just not long left to spend it wisely. We move on
