Deal for Posh Pair Falls Through
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 23:01

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that George Boyd and Paul Taylor have turned down their proposed move to Town. The pair were at Portman Road this afternoon and underwent medicals but were unable to agree personal terms.

MacAnthony tweeted: “Just had a phone call re Boyd and Taylor Posh fans from [Peterborough director of football Barry Fry] to tell me that they have turned down the move to Ipswich after meeting to discuss terms today with Ipswich and have failed to agree terms.

“This is the reason people shouldn't discuss bids been accepted etc until things are signed, sealed and delivered. Transfer window is mad isn't it?”

He later added: "Before Posh fans wet their pants, still 48 hours till window closes and I hate the uncertainty as much as rest of you on this. Honest opinion."

A statement on the Peterborough United website subsequently released reads: "George Boyd and Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms at Ipswich Town.

"Winger George Boyd and striker Paul Taylor have rejected personal terms with Ipswich Town after meeting club officials on Wednesday.

"The pair both passed medicals at Portman Road, but terms could not be agreed.

"The transfer listed pair both played for Posh in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on Tuesday night with Taylor scoring the opening goal."

Posh accepted a Town offer believed to be in the region of £2 million on Monday with the pair, whose current deals are up next summer, transfer-listed having refused to sign new contracts at London Road.

so we get comments from the Peterbro club ............let's hear from Clegg , so we know the facts from this end.

Leaving transfer dealings so late leaves us vulnerable to unreasonable demands from clubs and players , this club is becoming a joke in lots of ways and the blame lies with the way it is being run .

Common denominator over our club's decline is Evans and Clegg. Evans clearly demonstrates that he has no real interest in the club by being invisable and Clegg? Well he is just a joke - failed in the Army - anyone can make Major - amateur at the Olympics and knows less than my big toe about football and signing players. We need a new owner who is passionate about the club and prepared to commit financially to improvement and a Chief Executive who knows something about football, what is needed, has contacts and can close a deal. I fear for our future.

Gazelle - the demands would have been - THE GOING RATE - don't you understand that ?.

These are not the first players to refuse terms remember - every other Club in the game is able to complete signings - other than the odd one with mitigating circumstance maybe - WE ARE NOT ABLE TO.

Typical of certain people not knowing what they are doing.

We as supporters should demand Clegg to explain this. Yes it is Evans money but we the supporters contribute a hell of a lot as well . This is one too many transfers gone wrong . Clegg must explain this because until he was involved at the last minute it looked all okay. Explain in full no more bull s-it or resign.

Have to say this is eaxctly what I thought would happen, let's face it we haven't made signings all pre-season for the reason of wages and/or length of contract, it's a total joke!!

We talk about the Club being 'a Mess', 'a Joke' and whatever - but we are more than that :- We are a DISASTER and FRAGMENTED from top to bottom.

Never thought I would see, what I do now, in my lifetime.

Many Club Legends will be turning in there resting places.

Ha ha, most muppets on here seem to really believe that ME wants us to get promoted so he can get his debt repaid. Why we he want to do that when it is generally accepted that he is getting 8% interest a year. Where else is he going to get anything near that in the current climate? Expect things to get a lot worse. We were bought by a spurs fan only with interest in making money. He doesn't care about the club except to the extent that it is lining his pockets through debt and giving PR to the ME Group via us being part of his franchise. This club died when Sheepy screwed it up through a bit of bad luck but mostly appalling management and sold it down the river. We are now the longest standing Championship club and expect us to steer well clear of the Premiership while the debt stacks up (now over £60 million). ME doesn't want these deals to happen necessarily and Clegg who is a miserable snidey little turd with zero football experience does his bidding. All IMHO of course but heal not the only one who has deep suspicions of how this Club is being "run", see http://thetwounfortunates.com/ttu-season-preview-2012-13-financial-questions-at-

Surely we as supporters have got to the point where there is a no confidence vote on our friend Mr Clegg. He has to come out and explain WHY all these players during the past few months, have come to the point of contracts being signed and at the last moment it falls through.

In Clegg I have no trust, where is David Sheepshanks when you want him. No doubt he was ousted out because of his connections with St Georges at the FAs new training facility.

I wonder how much they were demanding per week? 6-8k per week would be about averages wages for the Championship so it could only be down to money or length of contract?

This is not Jewells fault and I suspect that he may get disheartened with our failure in the transfer market. The whole Evans/Clegg era will not be fondly remembered in seasons to come, unless of course something dramatic happens. At the present rate, it will be remembered in the same vein as the John Duncan era. Its such a shame.

Us fans deserve better.
If Evans or Clegg has an ounce of respect for us fans then one of them should come forward this morning and explain just what the hell is going on with this club.
Pay the going rate for gods sake!! Good players demand and recieve good wages.
This is the last season i part with my hard earnt money to pump into a club that does not give a flying f*** about me as a paying fan!
Does this club have a plan or are the just winging it day in day out?

In for kirk broadfoot, great defensive signing and on a free and at 6ft 3 exactly what we need.

The amount of players we have "lost" through these transfer negotiations is incredible, Boyd and Taylor, Joel Ward, Stephen Henderson, Charlie Austin, Gareth McAuley to name a few.

This is getting stupid.

It's all about the money - most footballers, supported by their agents who have a vested interest in making a transfer as lucrative as possible for their client because they will be on a percentage, are out to make as much money as they can. Their agents will have told them they can get abetter deal elsewhere. Wake up you lot!!

Good. They're both rubbish and way below the standard we need.

Legend

Your assertion that we would be better off without the ME investment is absolute rubbish. Servicing the debt was crippling us and in the wake of the banking crisis the club would have been squeezed even more (not unlike Portsmouth). ME's investment gave us breathing space plus long awaited transfer funds which in retrospect have been used unwisely by all the managers since. Without the relief from debt repayment and the transfer funds we would have been relegated long ago.

Paying off Jimmy Bullard and Jaime Peters does not free up their part of the salary budget. An arrangement has been made but we will have had to pay a substantial premium to cancel their contracts.

I wish someone would explain why people are so riled about the club refusing to abandon its budgetary stance to sign two journeyman players from Peterborough. Messi and Ronaldo they ain't, and if the rumoured demands are even close to being correct it's hardly surprising that negotiations have stalled. Desperate we may be but opening a can of worms in terms of future salary demands from both existing and potential players would be disastrous.

Stringtheory I think you've made a good point, it is often the agents who make or destroy these deals, I'm sure things would happen much better without their greedy little hands affecting every potential transaction.
