Martin Set for Millwall
Tuesday, 2nd Jul 2013 21:11

Former midfielder Lee Martin has reportedly agreed a one-year deal with Millwall and is set to undergo a medical in the next few days.

Martin, 26, was initially mentioned in connection with the Lions last month when a number of other clubs were also said to be interested.

After four years at Portman Road, Town offered Martin — who is based close to Millwall in Bromley — vastly reduced terms in May but the winger opted to move on and look for a new club.

Uh oh. I hope he's not going to be another Delaney.

I always supported Martin when he was here, an I think he always put 100% in, he's just not a good out and out winger. He played his best football when Jewell was here and he sat behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation. That clearly isn't the way McCarthy wants to do things though. Good luck to him.

best of luck to lee martin
sounds like an ideal move for him and he deserves a decent reception when he returns to portman road

....... good luck to him - wish him well.

Yet another player to add to the ranks that were hardly ever, if ever, played in their best position whilst here - for whatever reason.

Much was expected of him - out of position.

And so, his long march to lower league obscurity begins.

Average for the most part, but our most important player in the right formation.

Deserves a good reception at Portman road.

One of the biggest wastes of money from the Keane era. Wish him luck but won't miss him that's for sure.

One year deal? Says it all!

Shame he never fulfilled his potential with Town but his committment to the cause could never be questioned.
Didn't work out so not sad to see him leave but wish him well at Millwall.

Hardly say he was played out of position, he played there repeatedly at united and not many teams play with one up front and one off the front man. I expect lomas will play him out left next season. Didn't he play just behind the front man at Charlton? Hardly say he weighed in with his fair share of goals whilst there either.

That said, he shouldn't have left. Decent player who lacked a bit of confidence toward the end so probably right time for a change. Good luck to him.

He'll probably be brilliant there knowing our luck, nevermind

Can't wait until this is put to bed so I can stop hearing about how much commitment he had and how he has 100% that's fair enough cos there's quite a few players we have who could do with an improvement in that department but without the talent giving 100% doesn't really warrant a large amount of money, I'm sure all of us would give our all in a town shirt but I'd take talent over effort any day

Although never his biggest fan, Lee Martin was put in a very difficult position from minute one due to the crazy transfer fee which was obviously the club's doing rather than his, and also the insane contract he was given. You couldn't blame him for coming here. Give him his dues, he worked very hard and gave 100% but it never worked out here. Lack of goals, his inconsistency and his infuriating ability to get senseless yellow/ red cards were a trait that he always struggled to lose under 3 different managers. He might flourish at Millwall, free transfer to a club with lower expectations, as well as a one year contract meaning he needs to prove his worth to get a new deal.

It'd be interesting to know how the Millwall deal compares to what Ipswich were offering. A 1 year deal does not sound very good for a 26-year-old!

Yes he made an effort, but with transfer fee and wages Martin was sadly about £4M wasted, money which could have been invested wisely.

Best of luck Lee. Never questioned his commitment - just lacked the finishing touch.

Hope we included a clause that he cannot play against us as I bet he plays a blinder, scores a hat-trick of penalties after tripping himself up in the box and avoids any bookings!!

ps. yes i know he has already left us so no clause could be added! just joking :)

Arrived. Was pathetic. Went on loan. Came back. Ran around a lot. Played well in March. Ran around a lot. Left.

Dissboyitfc that is a good point however talent is a lot harder to improve on than effort, I'm sure lee Martin will give his all for millwall as well but he just doesn't have the end product, jet on the other hand clearly does have the talent and I believe him being transfer listed will hopefully give him the wake up call he needs. I think in the future we will be hearing a lot more from jet than we will martin.

Don't think we'll see him at Portman Road. He will be serving a suspension for the red card he receives in his first match.

For all his showboating, running around and 100% effort, he always was a red card waiting to happen.

Looks like he's gonna make the quickest return to PR possible. Not sure now if I'm looking forward to this one or not, just got a feeling he may come back & bite us on the arse. Hope to be proved wrong & just hope the crowd don't spend more time getting on his case than they do supporting the team.

Lee Martin lives in Bromley. Suddenly he has my sympathy.
