Edwards Joins Millwall
Wednesday, 21st May 2014 15:04

Former skipper Carlos Edwards has agreed to join his loan club Millwall on a one-year deal. The 35-year-old was out of contract at Town this summer.

The Lions were unbeaten during Edwards’s eight games on loan towards the end of the season as they escaped relegation with the former Luton and Wrexham man, who scored one goal, largely playing at right-back.

The Trinidad and Tobago international told the Lions official site that the relegation battle didn’t even come into his thoughts when he made the move to the Den, his opportunities having been limited during his final season with the Blues.

"I didn't even think about the league position, to be honest,” he said. “I was just really keen to go to Millwall and play, and it soon became clear to me that we had enough in the dressing room to go on a run and get the results we needed.

“For me it was really exciting because we were playing good football and getting wins and draws every game, so I was enjoying myself. To stay up was great and now I'm delighted to be joining the club on a permanent basis and really looking forward to next season.”

Edwards made 170 starts and 21 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals, having been signed by Roy Keane from his former club Sunderland for £1.35 million in the summer of 2009.

As someone that lives quite near Millwall I can highly recommend the bus service. Lots of different routes for those of us that don't/ can't drive. Good luck to Carlos. Great servant to our club.

Thank you, Carlos, and good luck. I don't think the price was ever right, but he was a loyal servant who played wherever he was put. And I'll never forget that last minute winner at Derby.

Thank you Carlos for all you have done in helping steer us through some really difficult days. I hope you are warmly welcomed back when the Lions pitch up at Portman Road this season.

As NoCanariesAllowed said, your goal at Derby will live long in the memory. You had a knack of scoring memorable goals, and I'm sure that Ollie will give you licence to go on similar marauding runs at the New Den. All good wishes for the coming season.

I wish him good luck and thank him for his efforts. Probably the only half decent signing Keane made. However, it makes you slightly sick to think how much Carlos must have cost us over the years while being pretty uninspiring for the majority of it.

How much does that free up in wages?

Thank you Carlos. You were a terrific servant to the club and the only one of Keane's signings who worked hard and looked bothered. Wish you well at Millwall.
Ps: don't score against us
Pps: score against them!

Great to see Carlos is going to get games again.

I wish him the best of luck and he will still be able to live in Ipswich which is what he wanted.

Am I the only one who actually thinks he was a bit of a flip and not worth the money we spent on him? Nice guy. Athletic and quick but flattered to deceive for me. Goals and assists per game vs wages and transfer fee? Only marginally better than leadbitter. I think Martin's opts stats are probably better.

....... Good Luck and Thanks Carlos - let's hope your new team plays you in your best, and preferred position - something you rarely, if ever, had the pleasure of doing at ITFC.
