Wigan Striker Linked
Wednesday, 21st Jan 2015 10:45

Wigan’s Marc-Antoine Fortuné is the latest striker to be linked with the Blues.

According to the Daily Mail, Town and Charlton are keen on 33-year-old Fortuné, who has scored only twice in 19 appearances this season, most recently in early October.

French Guiana-born Fortuné started his career in France with Angoulême, Lille, Rouen (loan) and Stade Brest before moving to Dutch side Utrecht in 2005.

Two years later he returned to France and joined AS Nancy, then moved into English football when he signed for West Brom on loan in January 2009.

After a year with Celtic, who paid £3.8 million for his services, the 6ft tall striker returned to West Brom on a permanent basis in August 2010. He spent time on loan at Doncaster in 2011 before joining Wigan in July 2013. Last season he scored five times.

While Town are looking for another striker - the Blues have been in talks with Leeds regarding the loan signing of Billy Sharp - Fortuné wouldn’t appear to be an obvious target given his recent record.

Sharp came on as a 67th minute sub for Leeds as they beat Bournemouth 1-0 at Elland Road last night.

Why would we sign him????? We've now got four strikers who could start any game (obv Mcgoldrick is injured) and Young Jack is now up the road to hopefully progress his game. So unless there is a serious link why bother putting it in the papers. The thing is did any one hear about Sears coming in before it pretty much happened? If this was true the papers wouldn't know anyway haha :)

Good player, wouldn't be dissapointed to see him.

Hunt didn't have any kind of record to speak of this season before he joined us, now look at him. Sharp also hasn't been great recently.

Can't see this being likely. Everybody knows Mick hasn't needed to spend a lot of money to get us up where we are - I doubt he'd want a Fortune right now...

No thanks..let's not upset the applecart by bringing in too many strikers..Murphy,McGoldrick,Sears and Noel Hunt should see us through til the end of the season.

I've got no problem if we're bringing in young-ish strikers on the up (like Sears) but don't want us going down this path of over the hill players who are just here for the money...and with an awful strike rate (like Sammon).

Phil - correct me if I'm wrong but I've got it in my head that we've been linked with this guy before, sometime prior to him joining West Brom? Seem to recall thinking we'd let one get away and then being rather underwhelmed by him when he did start playing in this country. For that reason alone I don't think we need this guy when we've got a decent strikeforce already.

He seemed to me like a player who could be good when he was in the mood, but that was far too infrequent, I would like us to get a targetman now as backup for Murphy, but this isn't him!!

My mate supports Wigan...he says he's utter bobbins and one of the reasons they are in the plight they are, as he couldn't hit a barn door

If MM wants him then that is fine by me. However I would be far more excited by either Chris Wood or Billy Sharp.

When Mick asked Marcus for a fortune he didn't expect this to turn up . . . . . . .

Thought he looked absolute class against us last year, don't know what's happened to him this year?
I tend to ignore what other teams fans say and trust Mick both Leeds fans and Col U fans said Hunt and Sears were no good.

Having said that Derby fans were spot on about Sammon

Hmmm. Maybe Kevin Phillips is available. I hear Alan shearer is thinking of going back to playing.

These rumours are just laughable.

We all know that Mick does business on the quiet, and we only hear about It when paths paperwork is complete.
Just waiting for the next signs of genius from the master.
In mick we trust

Coyb.

I have a feeling about tonight's game

Hope this is just idol gossip.

Went on a work trip to Germany couple of weeks back and got to see VSV Buchig. Man of the match (easily) was Sean Dundee, who played a good 93 minutes and cracked the bar twice in the first half and forced an amazing save that the gk palmed onto the post in the second. He's turning 43 and I'd rather see him at Portman Road...that's how much I rate Fortune. Seen a Fortune play twice and on both occasions was man-marked out of the game.

What a brilliant signing this would be for us, such a good physical presence. I would love it if we signed him he is a proven goalscorer at every level he has played at, I really like the prospect of Murphy Fortune stike partnership... SIGN HIM UP!

Have to agree with morgz259 here.
MM 99% completes his signings and then we hear the confirmation, none of this paper talk rubbish. The Daily Mail! FFS
