Former Blue Cresswell in England Squad
Monday, 7th Nov 2016 21:28

Former Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell has received his first international call-up, having been added to the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Scotland on Friday and a friendly against Spain the following Tuesday.

Cresswell, 26, was with Town between 2011 and 2014, making 138 starts and scoring seven goals before moving on to West Ham for an initial £3.75 million. The fee could ultimately rise to £7 million but with no clause relating to international appearances.

Cresswell could face his former Town team-mate Christophe Berra on Friday with the central defender in the Scotland squad, while one-time Blues loanee Andros Townsend is in the England squad.

Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford has also been added to Gareth Southgate's party.

About time too! Good luck Cressy. Even if we end up getting the full £7m West Ham still had our pants down IMO. I just hope we put a 20%+ sell on clause into the deal because I'm sure he'll outgrow West Ham.

Chuffed to bits for the lad. Possibly the best signing we've made throughout this spell in the Championship. Felt he was unlucky not to already get a look in after his Player Of The Year campaign at West Ham. Delighted his consistency and presence is finally getting acknowledgement beyond club confines.

Excellent, a very good financial boost. It goes to show how we can make big profits by investing modest transfer fees in good young players, then selling them onto Premier League clubs. Surely this opportunity has increased with the massive TV deals of late, so let's go for more signings like Webster and Ward in January. Build an exciting young side that will either make us lots of money, get us promoted, or ideally both.

Amazing, because every time I've seen him play for West Ham he's been absolutely dreadful. It shows how low England have sunk.

Fantastic! Such a good lad. Felt he and Wickham would go on to play for England. Possibly not gonna happen for our Connor but it shows what us giving good young English talent can lead to.

Great news. Defo one of the best most consistent left backs in the league. Well done Crests, hopefully another million + to spend for Mick in the January sales!

Much as I dislike West Ham It's I always like to see Cresswell do well and an England call up is long overdue. Hopefully he'll get some game time and another move to a bigger club soon.

He'll end up at Liverpool. No brainer, given his background and their need for a decent lb. Good luck to the lad. Well deserved call up.

Great news and he certainly deserves it.

We are going to the England/Spain game so hopefully he will be playing.

Phil - any idea how much the top up due to us will be?

Very good news and well deserved call up.
It seems a lifetime away when he was with us. He certainly pushed on but sadly the same cannot be said about ITFC since his departure.

I am going on Friday, hope he gets some time on the pitch, but more likely to do so against Spain in the friendly I suspect. Well done Cressy, you've worked hard for it and deserve it.

Should've gone to the euro's. Would have looked even better in that team. The closest player England has to being world class

Cressy was the shining light in the gloom of Jewell's reign. Well done to him - it was just a matter of time. Hope he hits a belter in like the one against Palace:
