The one that usually gets shown (curler in to the far corner) is his 100th for Liverpool.

That's the one I was thinking of. I was right behind that in churchmans. Great goal.

Awful tactics to give away an equaliser. Mariner should have been wasting time in the corners, not running at their defence.

I might have got this wrong but seem to remember he made his Liverpool debut against us at PR. I've a feeling it was in a cup game?

Edit I've googled it, it wasn't his debut, that was at Middlesbrough.

Jennings would have saved that.

Trevor Putney and Steve McCall, no wonder it all went wrong so rapidly. All great teams get dismantled eventually, our problem is replaced them with guys who weren't really that good

Have a feeling that game was the last for both Mariner and Wark as well.

Daglish was the greatest British player I was lucky enough to watch at Portman Road and that goal was something special.

Indeed.

And as a footballer he was incredible. Shortish, not particularly strong and no real pace - but hard to think of any player in world football bar Cruyff that did more with his brain and technique. Didn't matter that he was Celltic and I was Hibernian or he was Liverpool and I was Ipswich, I loved the wee man.

Pronouns: He/Him

Not so, Mariner's last game was also Jason Dozzells goalscoring debut against Coventry the following February and John Wark's last game(first time around) was a month later.

With thanks to "The Men Who Made The Town".

he scored a very similar one to knock us out of the cup, march 79', Churchmans top corner. as an aside, my mate had a pair of his spare boots that he left at Belstead brook hotel in about 83'!

Ha ha. I see what you did there. On a serious point though, the goals are the wrong way round in that 77/78 clip. Dalglish put Liverpool in front and Whymark equalised in the second half.
