Trevor Putney and Steve McCall, no wonder it all went wrong so rapidly. All great teams get dismantled eventually, our problem is replaced them with guys who weren't really that good

Have a feeling that game was the last for both Mariner and Wark as well.
And as a footballer he was incredible. Shortish, not particularly strong and no real pace - but hard to think of any player in world football bar Cruyff that did more with his brain and technique. Didn't matter that he was Celltic and I was Hibernian or he was Liverpool and I was Ipswich, I loved the wee man.

Not so, Mariner's last game was also Jason Dozzells goalscoring debut against Coventry the following February and John Wark's last game(first time around) was a month later.
No, definitely debut season; kit & the fact that Emlyn Hughes is playing
he scored a very similar one to knock us out of the cup, march 79', Churchmans top corner. as an aside, my mate had a pair of his spare boots that he left at Belstead brook hotel in about 83'!
Awful tactics to give away an equaliser. Mariner should have been wasting time in the corners, not running at their defence.
Ha ha. I see what you did there. On a serious point though, the goals are the wrong way round in that 77/78 clip. Dalglish put Liverpool in front and Whymark equalised in the second half.
