Everything that is wrong with the world in 2 words..... on 09:05 - May 20 by Oxford_Blue | This is the reason for relogious wars, poverty, starvation, overpopulation, intolerance and global warming? What a sheltered liftle Suffolk life you must lead. Is siggeat that the problems in the world might be better summed up witb these teo words: Human Beings |
A little lateral thinking is required to apply the op to most of your list but maybe those of you in cosmopolitan Oxford aren't capable of that ! Beings need to be truer to their Human nature if there is to be any hope......... it is the alienation of ourselves brought about by our inhuman scale of existence and the commodification of everything that is the heart of the problem imho! Ps....same broad point would apply to Ryorry's post too.

Have you interpretted it as support for the royal family? It was meant as a comment on how our existence is being boiled down to buying and selling (mostly) unnecessary sh1t at the expense of our sustainable existence on this planet.

Everything that is wrong with the world in 2 words..... on 09:35 - May 20 by Pendejo | OK so Great Britain... outcrop of rocks in the Atlantic separated by 23 miles of sea from mainland Europe, rubbish weather, flat, etc. etc. France & Italy both have Mediterranean Coastlines, warmer climates, mountains, winter resorts, on main land Europe accessible by road from neighbouring countries. Don't think Republic v Monarchy argument cuts it when it comes to tourism do you? [Post edited 20 May 2018 10:02]

Which is why events like yesterday are important for our economy. As I've posted on other threads (sorry, but the economic argument seems to be coming up all over the place today) - considering that there was an estimated live audience of 2 *billion*, not to mention those who watched highlights or via catch-up later, yesterday was a brilliant gift for the English Tourist Board - it may (or maybe not) incalculable what the £££££££££££ spin-off was in terms of increased tourism to England + perhaps rest of UK too. What an advert for England - beautiful weather, trees, grass, gardens all lush, green & well cared for, everything superbly organised & working like clockwork (sssshhhh - for one day only ...) - imagine even 1% of that audience going "gee hun, I didn't know England could be like that, I thought it was always raining - how about we book a trip there for the fall, or May next year?" etc. etc.

I think we Brits organise big events very well and consistently. Olympics and the Euros to name a couple.
