Domestic Holidays 10:15 - May 23 with 1521 viewswkj

Upon getting my car soon one thing I am planning on doing is taking the car and going somewhere in the UK for my holidays, finally do something not reliant on public transport and someone dribbling on me on a National Express or Easy Jet vehicle.

Are there any places that you'd say are good under the following conditions

-Plenty to do outdoors
-Minimal spending money needed
-Not an utter b*gger to get to
-Not camping (some chap bumped into me once and it put me off)

With love, With Care - William Kent Jacobson

I went to North Yorkshire and think that ticks a number of these boxes - we stayed in a village called Airton which was about 15 minutes from Skipton

It is a longish drive - but obviously depends where you are based! Other than that New Forest is nice but things are a bit more expensive down south!

He said minimal spending money!

I doubt if Center Parcs would be good on your own. Most people there are in groups or families.

Doing Center Parcs by one's self would be a massive feat to achieve I must admit

Airton and Malham are lovely areas, lots of outdoor pursuits too.

Peak District is always nice. Plenty of nice towns and villages and lots of things to do outdoors.

For example there is caving, hiking and para gliding around Castleton as well as Chatsworth down the road and Bakewell has a nice cycle path along an abandoned railway. Lots of nice cottages which aren't that expensive either.

Britain is a truly wonderful place to spend holidays in. Too many wonderful places too mention.
Even Norfolk is a great holiday destination if you like exploring outdoors, Norfolk Broads etc.
I dont know why so many people spend money and go on holidays abroad.
Britain is very much underrated when it comes to holiday destinations.

Agree with the above sentiment.

Also what about New Forest and south coast? Lymmington is a lovely town, West Wittering is one of the best beaches in the country.

Stay away from my neck of the woods.

Funnily enough I'm holidaying in the UK next week. In Suffolk.

I live away from Suffolk, and have holidayed in Thorpeness a few times with the family and loved it. Its like holidaying in the 1930s.

Knoydart, west coast of Scotland. Home of the UK's most remote pub and the region is considered Britain's last great wilderness. Bit of a trek to get to but I believe they have a few cabins up there to rent. I went there a few years back in May, arrived via boat on a day when it was 26 degrees and approaching the peninsula, it looked like I was going into Jurassic Park.
