You really are trying too hard banksy. Israel was born out of the Balfour declaration which called for a "national home for the Jewish people" in 1917.
Has this come as news to you some 101 years later?
The need to establish a Jewish homeland was obviously obviously a matter of some urgency after 6 million Jews were exterminated by a madman in Europe.
Does denying Jews the right to self determination make one an anti semite? Yes. As per the IHRA definition. Does that mean you can't call out Israel for the things you believe they are doing wrong? Absolutely not. Criticise away.
just because you don't like the government or the actions of a government doesn't mean you can deny the country's right to exist.

You are 10% correct and 90% wrong. Only the smallest group of Orthodox Jews in Israel believe the current state of Israel is God given.

I posted a link from Haaretz tha said much the same earlier in this thread. There is a great deal of opposition from both within Israel and the worldwide Jewish community towards the recent legislation. The Board of deputies put out a crtical statement yesterday.

The Israeli government shouldn’t escape criticism for this. And to debate whether the latest policy is racist or not doesn’t fall foul of the IHRA definition which says its anti Semitic to say the “existence” of Israel is a racist endeavour. Not that the “actions” of the government is racist. | |

The problem is that tho Israel's obviously a democracy (and the largest group of those who have populated it since it was founded in 1948 have been secular Jews who do not adhere to the Jewish religion, although Jewish by genetic descent) - its political system means that the tiny ultra-Orthodox political group holds disproportionate leverage in their razor-thin coalition government. (I know you know this, but many don't).

But as I posted on the other thread, people are using the IHRA examples (as opposed to the definition) to say that this sort of criticism (claiming Israel is practicing apartheid) is anti-semitic.

It’s no coincidence that Israel was one of the only allies of South Africa during the apartheid years.
I think Mandela’s quote says more about his belief in reconciliation than any objective view on Israel’s relationship with SA in the 70s and 80s. |  |
