Responses have been funny though!

I suppose what he's trying to achieve with his reverse ferret was that in a roundabout sorta way Fianna Fail won elections* by others being elected?

*or made some sort of capital out of others being elected. Still, even if that is his position, not sure there's any real argument there!

Several people have also pointed out that the double first he speaks of doesn't exist.

You have to study two subjects to gain a double first, right?

So he's not even too hot on his own Modern History! Fair enough, we all drink heavily from time to time...

He has no clue of what he is on about.

The reason that Ahern had to go was because of the fact he was involved in a fair number of scandals about his financial dealings and the reason that Cowen had to go was because of the Irish banking crisis, he was a crap leader who was out of his depth, a poor communicator who couldn't care less about the people of the country.

Fianna Fail were hammered because of the fact they continued to deny there was any problems, let alone address them when there clearly were serious ones. They said the IMF were not in Ireland and there was no problem and a few hours later they turned up.

FF were always more interested in protecting the party and their friends in Anglo Irish Bank and the golden circle of property developers rather than giving a damn about the national interest. They had been in power for so long that they become arrogant and complacent and out of touch and completely self serving.

It had nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with Europe. That's from someone who lived there at the time and saw it happen first hand.

OMFG. That's priceless.

"London’s art market had been brutalised by EU rules on VAT and retrospective taxation."

I'm almost in awe of people who go through life like this. It takes Zen-like navel gazing.

"The bans on vitamin supplements and herbal remedies had closed down many health shops."

"Now, the UK has again become a centre for world shipping."

And the pièce de resistance: "During the first 12 months after the vote, Britain confirmed with the various countries that have trade deals with the EU that the same deals would continue."

I think Hannan is a civil and nice person but utterly deluded as to the real world.
