Could be a McGrath moment? 12:22 - Aug 18 with 3109 viewsCoastalblue

Smith out of the rest of this game, and could well miss the next Test, I think with the introduction of Archer the pendulum could have swung for England for the next test if Smith doesn't play?

He's been the difference so far, I think we're marginally better than them without him.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Not 'illegal' - which is why I put the word in inverted commas. TMS were quite clear that the helmet was unacceptable to sports insurers. This came in as a consequence of the recent death.

Amazed at his choice tbh, such a dangerous area of the body to get whacked on by anything, esp a cricket ball at 95mph - potentially fatal.

Poll: Why can't/don't we protest like the French do? 🤔

I think the "McGrath moment" was the loss of Anderson during the early stages at Edgbaston. Unfortunately the tables are turned and it is England's loss.

With regards to Smith... I hope he is fit and well for Thursday.

Same here!

Concussion replacement, recent rule change.

Regardless they won't be in Smith's class but I don't think it will make much difference to this test which is surely going to be draw?

I'd think our no.1 brief for the rest of today has to be "avoid defeat" doesn't it?

Fortune favours the brave!

Think back to 2005, that positive, attacking mentality that we had right through the series.

Stokes is certainly going for it at the minute, so hope Root has a plan!

True, but risky ...(*Edit - & surely there's not enough time left to bowl Aus out, even if we were to declare now? (at 215/5)).

People keep reminding us all about 2005, but my sh1te memory means I'm afraid I've completely forgotten it! Any memory joggers pls?!

That Aussie batting line up could fold for under 100.

Think of the state they've already been in several times in this series, then take Smith out of the lineup.

Add the fear factor when you've just seen the worlds best batsman beaten up by Archer.

True, true - was just thinking of time tho (and maybe bit of rain about or poor light) - could we do it in one sesh, even if that does go to full time allowed? (7pm?)

Who's coming in for them as sub?

260/5 at mo, Root playing safe & going for another over.

2 x 6s!
