On a positive, Bairstow is due a big score...

Due, I didn't say he'll get one :;

I'll tell you what, if the target was 300 then I think the Aussies would be getting worried. 359 is a big, big fourth innings score still.

This is also probably true such is the life of a sports fan:

Whatever way this game goes it's been highly entertaining. The pendulum has been swinging all over the place.

I was going to reply with my real feelings about that! but in the circumstances am going to keep it

Interesting legacy from 1981 which I hadn't considered before, but it may be giving the England players a bit more belief, and the Aussies a bit more pressure.

Sky were channelling channeling Headingley 2001 before play which is perhaps more relevant to the modern era.

There's still along way to go and I would still think that one wicket will precipitate another collapse. England need to keep scoring rather than worrying unduly about the score.

120-ish left to get. Still have a day and a half. If we bat sensibly, ignoring any pressure from maidens/slow scoring and taking maximum care not to get out, even on into tomorrow, then that total will be reached as a matter of course.

What England do not need is to start trying to knock off the runs quicky and fall to rash shots.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

It will get interesting if we can get the target under 100 with wickets in hand

The pitch looks flat and the conditions look good

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

What on earth was the umpire thinking there? Absolutely nothing to suggest Bairstow nicked that.

*No* excuses for a run-out in Test cricket, and in those circumstances, it's as you say

Stokes sold Buttler down the river there really.

If there is a positive, it may make Stokes even more determined to see us home, though Woakes has to hang around and contribute for at least an hour.

Internet issue. It was fairly similar in sentiment to your post at the same time though.

Australia have had good first half our after lunch, England needed to get through it like they did the first few overs of today. Might have coped with one wicket, two finishes it.

100 behind now.

The crowd cheering like we need 18 not 48, still a huge ask this is, one superb delivery is all it's going to take sadly..

Oh I'm a bundle of joy...:)
