I'm an 80s child and bought my 1st home at 23. Every generation has people in it that want to do things early and others that don't and then moan about it

I bought my first house in 1983 for £24k and I was earning nearly that per annum, I do feel sorry for youngsters regarding housing I must admit.

I don't agree with all the moans about how difficult things are with work and all that, I will get slaughtered but some people need to develop a backbone and not to think the world owes them a living.

Housing though is a different matter and crucial to your well being, I feel very bad for the youngsters on this. It's not impossible as mortgage rates are nothing compared to years back but just finding the deposit is mind blowing. People are paying big rents and could afford a mortgage but can't get one, it's crazy. You used to be able to self certify.

“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.” Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

I remember that Northern Rock offered self certify mortgages for upto 120% of the value of the house before the financial crash. Crazy stuff.

Nah i was just wistfully extrapolating the wider blame culture we've witnessed the last few days. You are ok - you are one of the good uns 👍

The entire Tory rule and campaign was based on a blame culture. You literally voted for blaming others for the last nine years. It’s like me coming over, pissing on your living room floor and then offering to clean it up if you pay me.

We’ve already confirmed you buying a 3 bedroom house for the cost of what a 1 bed box with shared equity costs now with zero deposit doesn’t reflect the current world and you should feel privileged/lucky. You then got very shirty and abusive when you realised your argument had ran out of steam, but please do bring it up again. Perhaps you can damage your point further again by linking us to some properties you think are proving your point but in fact make you look silly?

He isn't a youngster though.

I bought mine first house in 2003 and paid 6 or 7 times my salary probably but also had my GF's salary. The interest rate was around 5%. Everyone wants an excuse but things for in your home cost more back then and salaries have gone up hugely. Of course house buying can still be done and is done on a mass scale
