For me, it would be someone who wants to (and can) work with what we've got. And, probably leading on from that, they think the game is all about getting the basics right.
Warnock seems to fit that criteria although I confess I don't know much about how the others do things.
A sign of how far we've dropped is that we cashed in upwards of 12+ million on Waghorn, Webster and Garner but we spent it all last season and this on players who have added nothing and probably just stopped us developing our own players more. We now need to work hard to stop this bloated and expensive squad from becoming an albatross around our neck that means we end up selling Downes, Woolfenden and KVY just to keep our heads above water.
Lambert or AN Other needs to get the momentum going the right way sharpish or we are going to be an established League One side before we know it. |  |

Parkinson is currently struggling to shift Sunderland from midtable and the situation Adkins had at Southampton compared to the set up here is like comparing a high functioning michelin star restaurant to a run down greasy spoon with no running water and a door that's half off its hinges.
Warnock to the end of the season to give us plenty of time to sound out a replacement would be the way to go. The structure of the club needs to change if we want real progress, otherwise it'll have to be a case of continually giving the job to some experienced old hand to try and stop us getting relegated again each season.
I'd get rid of Lambert even if he does manage to turn it around enough to get us promoted - we may be able to bungle our way back up but that won't be good enough to survive and we'll just come straight back down. I have zero confidence or faith in him being our manager in the Championship. If we could go back to when Mick left, knowing what we know now, I'd give it to Kuqi because why the fck not, it'd be a laugh. As above, we'd probably need someone with a bit more experience. Someone like Adkins then may become attractive. Basically anyone who can assemble a lower mid table Champ squad. Depressing. |  |

Pulis regards himself as a Premier League club & he would only join a Championship club with serious aspirations of being promoted.
I didn't think Lambert was a great appointment as he reminded me of Paul Jewell - a manager still trading off some very distant success and some poor form at most of his recent clubs. He seems increasingly clueless about how to halt our slide despite it seeming obvious to most of us that what is required is some consistency of team selection & formation. It would look silly to sack him now, but I'd be quite happy if he resigned rather than remain and make cryptic comments about his tenure here. I reckon the likes of Warnock would be odds-on to get this squad promoted but Lambert currently looks very unlikely to do so. |  |

Someone mentioned something about cerebral managers the other week, and that’s the route I’d like to go down rather than an old school shouty type; a student of the game but also someone with emotional intelligence who understands people and the psychology of professional sport.
I’ve no idea who though! When Brendan Rogers came down here it was immediately apparent he ticked all those boxes. He made players feel like giants and they’d run through brick walls for him. Someone like that would be amazing, but I’ve less than no confidence that ME can spot an up and coming manager in that mould. |  |
