He knew what a stottie was! Sounds like some exotic Geordie thing (and we're a long way away from there).

Winter comfort food for your tea? on 22:30 - Feb 25 by Ryorry | Oooh yes, pancakes. Whilst in the southern states of USA I loved pancakes topped with maple syrup, crunchy nut type things, & a kind of whipped cream that I don't think was from milk. The pancakes were the size of dinner plates, stacked 6 inches high - and that was just for brekkie! No wonder the USA has so many obese people. There was a UK restaurant chain in the 1960s that used to make pancakes like that, forgotten name of it, but meals there were a real treat. Talking of brekkies - the full English - bacon, eggs, sausages, toms, beans, mushrooms, fried bread. Unbeatable! |
You missed out the Black Pudding, Hash Brown & Onions. Otherwise, spot on.

I always used to make myself Bacon Grill or Spam and tomato sandwiches to take fishing when I was a youngster. Ocassionally if I was feeling posh I'd break out the corned beef. And yes, they definitely improved sitting in the full sun all day. TWTD.

Was also going to mention that it makes great carp bait too. But who'd want to waste it like that? 'ere Swanners, why is corned beef so expensive nowadays? In some places it's £3+ for a tin. If anyone can tell me, I'm all ears.

No idea, but if we can blame Maggie let's go for that. Yeah, that was the real appeal of luncheon meat- it was food doubled up as a good bait, or vice versa. Not many other baits I'd want to tuck into when a bit peckish.
