Not so much that, but it will help people to balance large strings of onions whilst cycling.

France to begin partial lifting of lockdown from May 11th on 19:46 - Apr 14 by Lord_Lucan | How is that going to end this though? Surely there are only two ultimate solutions - and we haven't got a vaccine. |
The end game will be a vaccine, attempting to limit Covid-19 in the same way as flu. In the meantime the idea will be to try and limit people’s exposure to the disease when new cases are known, probably akin to the approach South Korea have taken. Whilst alternating between the accelerator and brake makes sense I think it’ll infuriate too many and make the economy even more uncertain.

Didn't yesterday S Korea have over 100 people test positive for the second time? So either there is no immunity or they have dodgy test kits. Not definite info but my gut instinct is that they have a sh1t load of dodgy tests ( as have other countries) and I think they - and many many other countries are vastly falsifying figures. China 3000 deaths? How about 150,000 minimum

France to begin partial lifting of lockdown from May 11th on 19:21 - Apr 14 by Lord_Lucan | The only exit I can see is reduce lockdown - allow infection - lock down. Reduce lockdown - allow infection - lock down. If anyone thinks there is another way I'd really like to hear it. |
That is exactly what is going to happen. The Govt, and most Govts across Europe are planning Rolling lockdowns for the next 18 months, or until a vaccine is widely available.

A bit like global herd immunity until a vaccine then.

You won’t find a source as no government will officially say this at this point, but different shades of social distancing over a long term period seems the direction of travel.

Well, a meeting we had with our counterparts across Europe last week, but as VapourTrail says it will not be official policy as such yet. There are a lot of decent ‘experts’ who have been advising the Government and other countries who are quite active on Twitter And other MSM in explaining it for the masses rather than us nerds who are saying this is where we end up too. I just don’t think people have grasped how bad this situation is and all these talks of normality returning after this Initial lockdown ends are dangerous. The social distancing aspect is here to stay for a long while. Canada was saying they are planning for 2 years of ‘control of movement’ just last night | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah, this. That Karel Sikora (amongst others) chap who works at a private hospital for cancer patients is guilty of stoking an awful lot of false optimisim, in my opinion. And the government certainly isn't being honest about the longer-term situation. This is from the abstract of a paper published in Science yesterday: "We projected that recurrent wintertime outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 will probably occur after the initial, most severe pandemic wave. Absent other interventions, a key metric for the success of social distancing is whether critical care capacities are exceeded. To avoid this, prolonged or intermittent social distancing may be necessary into 2022. Additional interventions, including expanded critical care capacity and an effective therapeutic, would improve the success of intermittent distancing and hasten the acquisition of herd immunity. Longitudinal serological studies are urgently needed to determine the extent and duration of immunity to SARS-CoV-2. Even in the event of apparent elimination, SARS-CoV-2 surveillance should be maintained since a resurgence in contagion could be possible as late as 2024." [Post edited 15 Apr 2020 10:53]

Surely if you work in government you shouldn't be openly discussing the finer points of government meetings and planning on a football message board. I don't see how it helps things. I'm sure what you're saying is possible but I also would assume that all of these plans are based on worse case scenarios, and seeing how no one can actually predict the future, are no more or less likely than any other possible outcome that different people are mentioning.

The masses need to be socially engineered otherwise there is a likelihood of dangerous mass panic. It's a sh1tstorm of a situation and it's only just started. I genuinely don't believe many people have grasped it, they still think it will miraculously just go away. The war will be over by Christmas springs to mind.

It would nice if someone could just give the virus manager a call and arrange a truce for Xmas at least.

Perhaps it will follow a similar pattern to Spanish flu, and just burn itself out in a couple of years through death/recovery and immunity? Let's just hope the reports of second infections are inaccurate.
