At least we are top 3 in one league. Good effort to all those who travel to away games.

Will it? Those supporters are the hardcore, it might drop a little but I'm not too convinced it will drop significantly. The home support might be a different story though.

Without a doubt it will. Loads would've gone because "I've never been there before" (and we were top 6).

Next season both probably can't be said.

A lot of people go for the new ground novelty.

It will if we continue to struggle.

A lot of the big away attendances this season have come from the combined factors of the team doing well and the new ground factor.

If neither apply, then the away attendance will half for a decent number of games. The likes of Gillingham, Southend, MK etc (all the close ones, depending on what the division looks like next season) will still get a decent following, but some of the others won't.

Yes, not me but a lot do so if and when 2020/21 gets going with us (presumably) still in the third division I expect a significant drop in the away following.

I had sort of made up my mind not to bother to go to every away league game next season but not because I have been to most of the grounds this season but because watching ITFC in the third division all over the country is losing it's appeal.

Lower standard of football apart, I've actually really enjoyed all the away games this season - the welcome from home clubs has been much friendlier at most grounds this season.

I think it might be something to do with the fact most of these clubs are used to attendances in the single figure thousands (and a good few at the low end of that scale), so everything is a bit more personal, you're not just another one of a much larger number.

And also fans at this level are a more realistic bunch - they're not in it for the kudos of supporting a "big" club, but are proud of their club and strive for it to be the best it can be, whatever form that may take.

I have enjoyed the away games too but I expected it to be just a 'one season only' thing and up until November that is what it seemed it would be.

A second season (and maybe more) at this level does not have the same appeal to me.

I certainly agree that we have treated well and mostly hugely respected for what ITFC are (were) by the clubs and home supporters that we have come across.

As I say, I have enjoyed it but I am doubtful if I would enjoy it as much second time around.

When this crisis is over, I'm hoping to get as many away games as possible next season. Made 5 this season...

Factor in this

and it is more impressive still.

Funny, isn't it that, Coventry and Gillingham aside, the best way support is comes from the clubs whose fans have to travel the furthest.

Given our geographical challenges, we certainly do have a very good away support compared to others who are much more conveniently placed.

That said, we don't know any different. To us, anything under three hours is reasonably close, whereas to other clubs, that would be a far away game.

Might also have something to do with where our support live and the relatively high percentage that are not Ipswich (or even Suffolk) based.

Yes, those from Manchester etc only chose Ipswich 40 odd years ago because they were always at the top.

Why couldn't they support their own little local clubs like Man U or Man C?
