My favourite Pat Sharkey story concerns his one and only appearance for Northern Ireland in the Home Internationals at Hampden Park.

After the game, Pat got the train straight back to Ipswich and at 2am was spotted on the dance floor of the First Floor Club making shapes, still wearing his Northern Ireland shirt from the game earlier in the afternoon.

I knew a lad who played for Omagh Town in the Irish League when Pat Sharkey was manager. Would have been around 1990/91. He had some tremendous tales to tell.

Poll: Would you support a permanent return to the old yellow Town badge?

Wrong O'Callaghan

Kevin is your man.

He played 21 times for the Republic and almost played in goal in an unofficial international game but suffered a nasty broken arm that prevented him from doing so, his place being taken by a rookie american.

Sorry, good point. Forgot about Kevin. The broken arm incident was indeed unfortunate but for it he could have gone on to greater heights!

Mention of rookie American brings to mind this debacle.

Sexton the best. David Humphreys second. O'Gara third.

You're thinking of Gerry 'Ginger' McLoughlin

This try shows why talk of Sexton or O'Gara being the best is superfluous. Clearly the correct answer is Ollie Campbell.

proper Rugby shirts!!

And proper rugby players, not the beefed up robocops of todays game.

This is the best Ireland rugby shirt, they must have had the same design for ten years.
