*UPDATED FRIDAY* I've been asked for any update on KJ... 18:00 - May 6 with 4259 viewshoppy

Well, There's nothing more than just monitoring and waiting really (on from the update I gave yesterday on the link below). We spoke to her earlier on FaceTime and she didn’t have the oxygen on and sounded a bit better than she had yesterday, but that’s all the update I’ve got I’m afraid!

Thanks to those for asking, we’ve really appreciated the love and support we’ve had from people.

Yesterday's update:
KJ by hoppy 5 May 2020 21:08
Only just seen this, sorry. Thanks for asking...

As an update, they tried her off the oxygen today, Lasted 18 minutes, so that wasn’t good. Blood gases were also abnormal. Swabs re-done but I imagine they will continue to monitor her until the new swab results come back in 72 hrs. Blood results came back and her Infection marker levels have increased so shes now being put on a course of antibiotics as well.
So we continue to wait on the swab results.
Meanwhile Yasmin and I are not displaying any symptoms ourselves, she's just struggling to get to sleep at nights mostly, and remaining focussed on much schoolwork is definitely down on previous weeks, so think that's down to missing having her mum here (and being just stuck home with me probably!), but overall she's coping ok.

Hi EdwardStone... thanks for asking how KJ is...

(I've given here a snapshot of today... but the main update is lower down in bold if you want to skip the rest)

We spoke to her quite a bit today - she was in a very fun and jokey mood, so it was lovely to hear her laughing... probably for the first time in a couple of weeks... I asked her if she could give an update for people that were asking...

This was the message exchanges I had...

First update she gave me to be able to pass on to people was...

K: “She’s got that covid thing. Yeah the doctors are keeping her prisoner in a 12 by 12 room but she shouldn’t complain cus she’s got an en-suite and a room with a view (of the car park).”

KJ: “Sorry will write a serious one now...”

KJ: “Promise...”

KJ: “Day 10 in the big brother house....”

I then waited a couple of hours before asking her if she’d got the serious one...

KJ: “I forgot sorry, I’ve been busy tidying my 12x12 microhome”

But finally she did say this...

Just tell everyone I’m in good spirits despite not being allowed home yet. My blood tests showed that my inflammatory markers are increasing and my chest X-ray was typical of covid 19 (described as seeing shattered glass) will be reviewed again on Monday.

I don't think she wants to see another tuna mayo sandwich, her daily dinner treat...

Followed by her then sending me this:

Can you just let her know, from one who has enjoyed twelve days and nights worth of hospital food in the last few years, that it doesn't get any better but you sort of settle into a routine and accept it. I believe they call it the new normal...

Oh, believe me, she knows... she’s been in 3 times in the last couple of years with pneumonia - one of which spells, she was in for 7 and a half weeks!

Surely nutritious food would be a top hospital priority.....it never has been though....fair play to K.J. for taking it so stoically !

Best wishes to her and you all for a speedy recovery. Dealing with the virus will be a walk in the park if she can handle those lunches

Jeez, that's above and beyond the call. No idea what it is like in Ipswich but if you want derision poured upon your head in a Scottish hospital all you have to do when they give you the meal choices form is ask 'Any chance of some pasta?'

I've had a few short stints in the WSH in Bury St Ed, ranging from 2- 5 nights.

I have to say the food was a right mixed bag really. Although I wasn't ungrateful it has to be said. But one meal sticks in my mind.

On one visit here was an Indian man in a bed opposite mine - a well-known jockey apparently [?] who had a fall from a horse and broken something or other.

He was a miserable, bad tempered git the whole time and didn't stop moaning.

It turned out one lunchtime we'd both ordered the same thing. We saw dhal on the menu and jumped at the chance. It was the first time I saw him almost smile and he didn't complain once throughout lunch.

I called out to him that it was pretty good and he looked up from his bowl and gave an approving nod.

We were both shocked how damn good it was and if I'd ordered that in a decent restaurant I would have been equally happy. Heck knows how that got on the menu or who made the recipe.

A friend of mine trained and worked as an NHS nurse back in the day. She was so incensed with the poor standards of food & nutrition, which she assessed were setting patients back in their recovery rather than assisting them, that she left to start her own wholefood retail shop & lunchtime sandwich outlet.

Yeah, she said if you hadn't really gone on from the 2 week menu rotation, you haven't lived...
She can't have dairy, and doesn't do pasta or rice, so her choices are even more limited than most...so has had more than her fair share of tuna sandwiches to be honest!
