Assuming you're not constantly browsing dodgy websites, then no. Windows has it all built in.

If you think you would feel safer with some sort of extra security then try AVAST antivirus. It's free. However, they will badger you with messages to try to get you to buy their professional suite. Don't bother. One of the messages is that 11 programs are slowing your PC and click here to see them. It tells you that you have to upgrade to the professional version to get that information. On inspection, 10 are essential to run the PC and there is only one uneccessary program that is slowing your PC and that is the Avast antivirus software.

Saying that chose Panda Antivirus and I must say that I found it very easy to use and the free option is great but the constant popups of slow downs are a pain. I did get a year subscription once just to test it out even if it was just to get rid of the annoying pop ups - again, I was satisfied, however on doing the computer scan the slow downs mentioned were essential processes. Pluses - No more annoy pop ups and piece of mind (the free version gives piece of mind) Minuses - Can sometimes Roll back and even delete drivers for certain components with purchase of full edition/subscription
