Boomtown Rats - documentary on Iplayer on 16:04 - Jun 8 with 1320 views | DebsyAngel | We actually watched this Saturday night (we had recorded it when it was first shown), and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very well done and liked the opening part!
Boomtown Rats - documentary on Iplayer on 16:05 - Jun 8 with 1320 views | jeera | I caught some of that last week [?] It was a good watch, even if Bob looked around 14 and it made me feel both old and nostalgic.

I know what you mean about feeling old and nostalgic. I had forgotten quite how big they were

Boomtown Rats - documentary on Iplayer on 16:21 - Jun 8 with 1297 views | dickie | I had never been into them before I saw them at Latitude a few years ago - they put on such a great, fun live show! Bob was the consummate performer
Boomtown Rats - documentary on Iplayer on 16:30 - Jun 8 with 1288 views | FenboyBlue | It was a really good documentary. I've always quite liked the Boomtown Rats but not quite enough to buy their records. (It's the same with Squeeze). The really interesting bit was where Bob was theorising about the crucial bit where bands have a set time period where you have to take the initial UK success over to the US otherwise you'll lose all the momentum & never make it big internationally and the Rats messed up like most UK & Ireland bands.

I think the decision by the guy at their American record company to post a dead rat to 1,000 American DJs as an encouragement to give "Rat Trap" air time was the best moment.

Boomtown Rats - documentary on Iplayer on 17:23 - Jun 8 with 1228 views | usm | Yep, agreed. I watched it when it aired on BBC 2 a couple of weeks ago. It even prompted me to get my "Tonic for the Troops" LP out of the loft. I'd forgotten all about Mary of the 4th Form......

Looking After Number One on Top Of The Pops was my first exposure to punk music and I hated it. I liked Abba. I didn't know why they weren't singing properly, why Bob Geldof insisted on shoving his ugly, sneering, mug right in the camera and why he was prancing around the stage in that cocky manner. Fast forward a couple of months, Abba was binned off, I couldn't get enough punk and Looking After Number One was, and remains, my favourite Rats track.
