Now I actually miss Mick.

Cheers!

I appreciated the miracles Mick worked, I knew he wouldn't throw Evans under the bus and I knew that he was working on a shoestring but for me the animosity at the end and the boring style of play was too much. It was right to let him go.

It was everything that followed after that was the problem.

Hurst was just as happy for them to go, it allowed him to shape the squad in his image quicker - that big sale opened the door to complete the deals for Nsiala, Nolan and Jackson

Wouldn't argue with that. I'd still say the players failed to buy into what they were trying to do.

Hurst had more leeway in that window than anyone apart from perhaps Jewell or Keane 10 years ago.

But we ended up bringing in players who were overvalued, sidelining our own kids and creating a bloated squad.

It feels like he pretty much demolished the position he inherited to make a point and set his stamp on the club.

No argument there. Still disappointing the squad never ran with it and clearly didn't like it up them.

Bart getting so upset about the Norwich dropping still angers me to be honest.

There are ways and means of doing it though.

On your wider point, it feels as though the squad felt why should we believe in Hurst when he doesn’t seem to believe in us?

I can see the reactions Hurst was hoping to get in saying the things he did and behaving the way he did, but unless he was also imparting absolute gems of advice to the players between times, it always ran the risk of blowing up in his face.

That in itself is a bad attitude.

It's still frustrating that the players never bought into what Hurst was trying to do. Yes, he wasn't the most inspiring bloke, but that he was an unknown from Shrewsbury wasn't an excuse.

Thats an important often forgotten point that players can make or break a manager .

I seem to remember Waghorn himself quoted as saying We need to be playing more on the front foot around the time Mick was leaving .I dont think everything was as Rosy between MM and the players as Waghore is suggesting now !

That's a failure of management, they were being constantly dug out.

During the WC that summer some of my mates were in the bar watching a game and Doig was in there and they were chatting to him - he was telling them how the players they had at Shrewsbury were better than what we've got etc.

I'm sure he wasn't backwards in telling them that from what I hear and they just screwed up the relationships with the players taking a wrecking ball to the squad - when you fall out with people like Freddie Sears then you are getting things badly wrong

He lost the senior pros early doors but I think he seriously underestimated the Championship first and foremost.

This Gerken interview always saddens me a little bit. It's almost as if for 5/6 they'd never been encouraged to pass the ball and someone now doing so was some sort of revelation.

“I prefer it that way because I’m always in the game. I know that if I receive the ball I need to know where I’m going to pass it.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever done it so we’re not completely up to scratch with it. It’s a brilliant system and really enjoyable as well.

Fair point. You could also argue the squad had a lot to prove having had a disappointing season and seeing their manager leave due to fans' upset at the quality of football on offer.
