Lunch? on 14:50 - Aug 13 by factual_blue | Just a couple of crumpets with Marmite. Afternoon tea for visitors later. Salmon sandwiches, ham sandwiches*, pork pie, homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. And of course some fizz (belated and combined family birthday celebrations). *mainly for the fox. |

I once had a spag bol made with Quorn mince. Honestly, my entire being collapsed out of my @rsehole for the next day. Even I could be in the same room as myself. Never ever again.

I'm a Devonista in the cream tea stakes. The plebs all went Cornish. #plebs

Cornish is clearly the correct method. Easier to spread.

I never remember which is which, probably because it's hard to care. But it has to be jam on the bottom. It's the only method that makes sense.

I tried quorn mince on J2's recommendation and in the end I had to mix it in with minced beef just to use it up. It was like eating grains of soil. I can see how people lose weight on it though. If that's all there is in the cupboard, you're gonna go without.

It's not my favourite Quorn ingredient but it does a job. I am making a bolognese tomorrow with lentils instead of mince. The Quorn sausages are excellent though.

I'm too hot and bothered. My head hurts - maybe cos of the heat [?] I'm fecking miserable and even if I'd liked it I probably wouldn't admit it right now. *Yes in bolognese. It's not that I hated it as such, it was more just like ...joyless, I suppose. I tried though.

I'll try the sausages some time. On the odd occasion I meet a lass I like they always seem to be a veggie or vegan, so sooner or later I'm going to have to find something to pretend to like.

Seems a fair deal. You pretend to enjoy her sausage, she pretends to enjoy yours.

How I cook Quorn (or the cheaper Tesco / Morrisons) mince: Put a wok on a ring and turn on full heat, put maybe a couple of tablespoons of sunflowers oil Turn heat down and chuck veggiemince into wok, add tomatoes, mushrooms, basically some vegetables to make this vegetarian meal look vegetarian Add, say, a quarter of a jar of pesto sauce You've boiled the kettle, right? I did tell you to do that at the start - I didn't! Well, anyway, put a fair bit of boiling water into a saucepan (if put the saucepan on to another ring and turned that up full at the same time as you started the wok going you might get a pleasingly dramatic effect). Put seventy five grams of pasta into the boiling water and cook for ten minutes. Make sure the ring with the wok on is at the lowest setting, then remove from the heat just before the pasta is finished. Bung in some olives (because you have used pesto and pasta so you want to be Italianate, don't you?) Drain pasta and dump on plate, spray on olive oil and grind some peppercorns onto it, then dump veggiemince etc. on top. I'm eating this or similar once a week.

Veggie pasta for me today. Fried some garlic, onion, mushrooms, courgette, and veggie sausages in a drizzle of olive oil. In go some tinned of tomatoes and chilli flakes. Pour onto those giant pasta shells, baked in the oven with a lot of cheddar on top. Slice of lemon cake for dessert. Bootiful.
