Any tips for things to do around there and the Lake District/Yorkshire Dales? Already booked up for horse meditation!

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

I would not joke about this dollers.

Look em up on amazon. They’re genuinely inflatable.

Some might be, as Lagos has indicated. The ones I used in Austria weren't - they were just like a (solid) surfboard.

Hmm. Ok perhaps they were solid, the inflatable ones don’t feel as if they’ve been pumped up, it also feels like a (solid) surfboard.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Highly likely you'll get a rainy day, in which case a round trip on the gorgeous Settle-Carlisle line could be an option - incorporates the spectacular Ribbleshead viaduct. Probably too late to book for one of the steam-train excursions, but a regular diesel service is run. Settle's a lovely town with good shopping. If the rain's on/off, you could get off at any of the stations for a walk.

If museums etc are your bag, other wet day options are the two art galleries/museums in Carlisle, worth a visit - Tullie House and the Guildhall Museum; the Cathedral has an amazing ceiling. Maybe the Castle too but I haven't been there. You can buy Kendal Mint Cake in the Tourist Office/Visitor centre in the city centre!

Edit - just realised that if you don't have a car to get across from Kendal to the S-C line which is a fair bit further E, the above may not be feasible - not sure there's a rail or bus connection from Kendal, & they might be impractical even if they exist.

They were rock hard in Austria; you could knock on them! They were exactly like a regular surfboard. I don't know what the norm is, I can only go on my own experience.

Balancing (when standing up) was my biggest issue. I found it much more wobbly than I was expecting. When you see experienced body boarders gliding across a lake it looks so much easier!

Any recommended pubs / restuarants in Windermere.? Got one night there coming up.

Hi,

Apologies, been a while since I've been to Windermere -

The last time I went I think I visited Rastrellis which was good - If your in Ambleside, there is a Pizza restaurant next to the Cinema called Zeffirellis which used to be good.

The Flying Pig looks decent (there also a Real Ale Bar down the road)

Zeffirellis is vegetarian but very handy for the cinema.

Wild Boar does an amazing alternative afternoon tea which is definitely worth checking out.

Few decent hotels with waterfront locations on Windermere, Low Wood Bay and Storrs Hall both nice. The actual towns can be a bit touristy vanilla for food options.

I’d also recommend The Gaddum at Brockhole for lunch. Loads to do on site there too, TTT (like Go Ape), water sports, laser clay shooting, archery, mini golf, gallery etc etc. Weekend will be kids everywhere but weekdays should be fairly quiet.

Small chance of rain at the moment, looking at the forecast. And I really don't think there'll be crowds when we go hiking.
