Don't think it's panic stations yet 21:47 - Oct 20 with 3529 views | tractordownsouth | If you offered us 5 wins and a draw from the first 7 back in early September I think we'd have all snapped that up. I'm not denying that we were well beaten tonight and the individual errors were to blame, but there's definitely been an overreaction on here. Playing a more attractive style of football makes us more threatening going forward but it was also always going to lead to a few more howlers at the back - I can think of countless times that Bournemouth did that both in the Championship and the PL during their peak under Eddie Howe. One silver lining of tonight is that it should give Lambert reason to bring back Woolfenden. Nsiala has been solid so far but had a shocker tonight and we need a ball playing centre half to execute this particular game plan, especially against sides who are effective at pressing the ball. Likewise, I didn't think Judge had an awful game today but had he taken his chance at 1-0 we'd likely be talking about another victory, and it makes sense to play Lankester or Sears on the wing, once Hawkins is back. We just have to hope now that Lambert doesn't tinker with the system - it's the personnel that is the issue. And even then, I think some of the fringe players who had a poor night tonight (Nsiala, Kenlock) have benefitted from having a defined role, rather than being asked to play in a different formation every week. It's a real test for the management to ensure they don't panic and rip up the entire blueprint on the back of one result - Lincoln is a big game.

I like Holy a lot but it is clear he is not overly comfortable with how we are now trying to play, and presumably why we brought Norris in last season, and now Cornell. I think for me, you drop Wilson and bring in Woolfenden, and we always need a bit more grit in midfield. Doz has been good so far this season but carried him the last few games. |
why on earth you'd drop wilson when Nsiala is the weaker is beyond me. Even the stats back that up. And the notion that we've carried Dozzell the last few games - which games were you watching?!

Yep, and I'm allowed to challenge it. Everything was fine and dandy. see how it works?

I don't think our absentee list can really be overlooked by anyone and am pleased we have already got a fair few points in the bank as there will be a few more disappointing results until players return. That said, we have probably seen the limits now of trying to build from the back with current personnel. Probably time to put Woolfenden back in and say thanks to Toto; not sure I'd change a lot else, partly because there aren't really other options available. We're trying to play the way Lambert wants, and people wanted, with depleted resources and with that comes errors. I can forgive it at the moment.

We need Judge out of the side as well imo. He doesn't offer enough as a wide forward. We need players that can get us up the pitch and carry a goal threat and he just doesn't do that.

I'm hoping Lankaster might be close to a start now. Thoroughly agree on Judge. He reminds me of a bluebottle. Never stays in one position, always buzzing around randomly, and not really much else. He also vomits on other people's food and stamps it in.

100% agree with this. A rare sensible post on here.

His contribution to goals has been reasonably good I think and he has something to offer — but at the moment I agree we are really short of pace and dynamism, which shows against the better sides. Bennetts or Lankester to get a go soon hopefully, or just Edwards/Sears when we actually have a striker. Although last night wasn't good we were trying to do the right things and it's hard to be hyper-critical given the circumstances. I think it shows we need Woolfenden back in, for one, but then we knew that day would come.

It's a coin flip really between the two. I like Wilson a lot, but Toto has pace which the back line sorely lacks so that's why i would keep him in. It's tiny margins though.

Don't think it's panic stations yet on 08:59 - Oct 21 by itfcjoe | It's an incredibly difficult situation for Lambert to judge/manage now.... Play well, you keep your shirt - had conceded 2 goals in 6 games as a defence One poor game with Nsiala and Holy particularly poor at what we want to do, and TN just generally poor - do you deserve to lose place after one bad game. But these issues were there previously, we just hadn't been punished for mistakes made, often because , Toto especially, we were getting away with things - even last night that poor kick from Holy was saved by Toto. But - we need to get Woolfie back into the team - he's a key asset to the future of the football club, and has earned right to start after performances last season, and before he was injured this season. It's a very difficult decision to balance out - but Woolfie coming back inot the team is a matter of when not if, and I think Cornell taking over between the sticks is as well - he's just much more comfortable with the ball and that is what we need. I thought Bursik in goal for Donny last night gave a bit of an understated masterclass with regards to comfort on the ball and really highlighted what we were missing |
Agree it is a difficult situation to manage, however I don't believe its a case of 'deserving' of being dropped, its a case of we have a good squad and by dropping the likes of TN after last night it sends the message to the team that they have to bring their A game every week. 1 bad week and you risk your place. Lambert has done the right thing after being criticised last year for rotation, that he stuck to his winning team. Now we have a defeat, he can change things up and get the players in we want to see. For Lincoln, I would like to see: Cornell Chambers, Woolf, McGuiness, Ward (if fit) Doz, Bish, Huws Bennetts, Hawkins, Edwards Subs from; Holy, Wilson, Nsiala, Kenlock, Sears, Judge, Nolan, Lankester Maybe harsh on Kenlock, as he had a good game last weekend and wasn't exactly the worst on the field last night. But with my back 2 being relatively inexperienced, Ward and Chambers either side balances it out quite nicely.
