....rid us of this fraud of a manager.

I do wonder how different things would have been had Mick been able to stay until the end of the season, though. We were left in limbo after Mick left then it took us an awfully long time to get Hurst through the door, due to the play offs.

I will stand by it was time for Mick to leave as there was far too much toxicity and ill-feeling in both directions. I do agree the handling of what followed is what killed us, and Evans’ approach of trusting the manager above all else to cover so much ground without a ‘football man’ in place to review and sign off each decision.

Agree, 100%... we didn't get relegated because Mick left, we were relegated as a result of the decisions made from that point moving forward by an owner who has limited, if any football knowledge, allowing Hurst to completely rip it up. You can't blame him for wanting him to do it his way and putting his own stamp on things, but he brought in too many lower league players all at once. Evans should've stepped in at that point and not allowed him to do it

Also, I don't get the incessant harking back to the past and the incessant references to our last but one manager, who did not get us promoted, and under whom a large number of people used to josh about whether we'd finish 14th in the table as per.

Only way to get out of current mediocrity is to move forwards with a different manager to our current one & previous two. A different owner might help too, but that's a different thread.

You have to remember this forum back in the summer after Mick had left, most were clamouring for Hurst saying he will be able to get in lower league players that would be good for us. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Mick leaving when he did was the right thing to do, maybe would have been better for him if he left the year before. The football was dull and boring, but that's his trademark you know what you are getting, difficult to beat but also difficult to be able to win a game.He maybe would not have got us relegated but would definitely not got us promoted.
The last time we really had exciting football was under Joe Royle and most wanted him out as well. Check my posts back and I was not inspired by any of the appointments post Jim and would always have gone for George to come back and utilised our younger coaches that we have at the club, it won't happen of course but we can dream. All of the names mentioned to replace Lambo would not inspire me, so I say stick with who we have and try and build from where we are.

I expect people will stop harking back when we actually show some signs of getting back to where we were in the table back then, rather than the absolute disaster that has followed since

Also no one with any sense used to joke about us finishing 14th under McCarthy seeing as we were regularly in the top half under his command. It was actually his predecessors that regularly finished in that part of the table (15th was actually the joke btw)

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

Certainly it is the best that we can dream of at the moment is to get back to where we were when MM was last here and if and when we achieve that the next aim should be to get back to where we were when MM had us in and around The Championship playoffs.

It might be too ambitious at this stage to dream of actually doing better than we did under MM.
