So it looks like a variant of C19 which appeared in Spain in June/July now accounts for most infections in the UK.
Now obviously it could have made it's way here anyway but the hypothesis of the researchers is that it was carried back to other countries including the UK by people who went to Spain for holidays in July.
It's not the most prevalent strain in other countries so that does tend to point to holidaymakers not quarantine on return to the UK from Spain.

YES!!!
I said I had something like Covid at the end of September after a trip on an Easy Jet flight
Two people I know living close by think they had it at the end of last year: had all the classic symptoms, with the one sticking out that they lost their smell/taste. At the time they thought it must just be a usual winter flu, but now they think otherwise.

It's certainly possible but pretty unlikely based on the current evidence (which could change).
The first cases were only highlighted in China in Dec 2019 although it might have been around from earlier. It's certainly possible it was in Europe already by then but if it was it would have been in very small numbers otherwise it would have been spotted.

The French went back and tested some blood samples taken towards the end of last year and I think November was the first one that they found with CV.
So seems likely the first cases in Europe were around that time. Very small numbers obviously.
