Although they are not great climbers, grizzly bears can clamber up to about 16 feet up a tree. To be safe from grizzly attack the lowest part of your body needs to be more than 16 feet up a tree.
You might want to find a taller tree.
For black bears, no tree will keep you out of trouble, they are good climbers and if you try to get up a tree to avoid a black bear you will just find yourself fighting a bear in a tree.

Don't discount the bears though, there has been quite a lot of rogue rewilding going on recently. Take the beavers on the River Otter they just turned up out of the blue, almost certainly released as a rogue rewilding project.
Incidentally, that tree would not keep you safe from beaver attack for long, unless help came, they would just nibble it down. Given the lack of girth you probably wouldn't have much time either. | |
