Cash is done for now, isn't it? 13:57 - Jan 27 with 3996 views | factual_blue | Looking through old bank statements, I haven't drawn out cash since last May, and that was to pay a friend for some concert tickets, which we may or may not get to finally use in November. And I've still got £15 cash.

Cash is done for now, isn't it? on 23:26 - Jan 27 by Ryorry | I've been told I must immediately pay my TV licence for a second time, although my refund for the amount of £154.50 I'd already paid by online transfer in Dec. (I hadn't realised it's gone up by £3 from last year) has been issued in the form of a cheque! which as I'm shielding I can't possibly go to the bank to pay in, & won't be able to do so until I've had my second vacc & that's had time to become fully effective, so months away. Ludicrous - why use such an antiquated method |
Most banking apps have a cheque scanning facility with 24 hour clearance, so not really a problem.

Cash is done for now, isn't it? on 23:03 - Jan 27 by MattinLondon | In response to your first paragraph- why? I understand that some people don’t want to leave an electronic fingerprint. But if a company or service provider doesn’t wish to accept cash why should they have to provide alternative (cash) arrangements for people to pay? |
They don't have to, but if they don't people who don't want to pay for things by card may not buy from them. So each business takes a decision as to what they want to do as is currently the case. I'm sure there are lots of things people buy that they don't want showing up on their bank statements, especially if looking to get a mortgage when they run through it with a fine toothcomb. "Yes you earn £100k a year, but what is Big Betty's Pegging Services that you are dropping £100 a week on, and I note you go to Recreational Drug Inc and spent £80 there some weekends" Couples with joint accounts etc, I don't need or want to know everything my wife spends, the same for her and me.

Pre covid..... on 14:51 - Jan 27 by Bloots | ....I was having a beer outside a pub in the City (amongst my capitalist scum brethren) and a beggar/homeless individual/professional scrounger asked for some change and when I (honestly) advised him that I didn't have any cash, he pulled out a card reader. I politely declined anyway. The times they are a changin' |
Wow! People doing genuine street collections for cancer charities, hospices, air ambulance etc are finding it difficult and I'm not sure folk will want to donate by card.

Cash is done for now, isn't it? on 14:41 - Jan 27 by MattinLondon | During the past year we’ve had some work done in the house as well as garden and everything has been paid via online banking. No one wanted cash. Cash will eventually be phased out but I can’t see it happening within the next twenty years. |
As a plumbing & Heating engineer I hate cash, a complete pain in the arsenal. However a lot of householders try and insist on it thinking you will lose the Vat. However you just add the vat in. Problem then is you have to get to the bank to pay it in. Much prefer cheque or bank transfer. May even look to get a card machine although they seem a bit of a rip off.
