Calling ex players “Legends” has got to stop

It’s getting to the point when it’s every other player.

These are the legends we have.

Beattie
Mills
Wark
Crawford
Holland

That’s it!!

Any other player is a “ great”

Stop it

The age of supporters makes a massive difference. I remember Man U supporters voting Eric Cantona their "best all time player" despite the fact that he only played 143 games for them & ignoring the claims of players from a different generation, such as Bobby Charlton 7 George Best.

That was in essence the point I was making too, I see the players as legends that I watched play during a mini golden era for ITFC. Whilst Beatie and co are some of the best players we ever had, Holland, Stewart, Mogga etc... were the ones who did it just a few yards in front of where I was sitting (standing) - As such, they have the title of legendary to me.

Roger Osborne surely? A limited player, so not sure he can be called a ‘great’ but for that one goal, what he did for our club, he surely deserves legendary status.

You're a leg end.

The one that irritates me is the word 'heroes'.

Heroes save lives, not kick a fecking ball about.

There is no such thing as a sporting 'hero'.

I'd have Matty down as a great, as other say. Legends are a rare breed indeed.

Realistically, legends will, in our instant, clamorous age, always better reflect the near present, rather than the distant past. Then, as you highlight, there is the dichotomy of appearances v impact. Players such as Butcher embody both, but that's not so with the Dutch pair. So I guess you pays yer money and takes yer choice.

Even though I go back a long way, still, the present that one has actually witnessed probably holds sway. Thus, though I made a case earlier for the famous 5 who secured 3 ascending league trophies, I can't make a judgement on such as Jimmy McLuckie, Jackie Little and Tommy Parker, for all of whom there is no film, and who played for us before trophies became a regular thing.
