Marcus Evans wants this club to fall 04:21 - Feb 2 with 3293 viewsITFC_96

The salary cap benefits him greatly. This is absolutely dire, and we are going to stay in this division a long, long time.

What a joke.

Not having to spend as much money? Check
Still many fans who have delusions that we're close to getting promoted? Check

Tell me, how exactly will he be hurting once he has to spend a fraction of what he's spending now, and fans will still be filling up seats? Every fan should protest by never visiting a game until they are both gone. It is so incredibly obvious that Evans wants the club to sit in this division as long as possible.

The only thing which is 'incredibly obvious' is that you haven't a clue what you're talking about.

This is getting boring now but ME does not want to be in league 1 anymore than we do, he is doing is best to help the manager get out of this bloody league.

Which way out though?

Up or Down?

He didn't buy it hoping to sit in League One, he bought it hoping to get to the Premier League quickly and make a big profit. He invested a lot in the project but not effectively enough to succeed. That investment is now a sunk cost and is irrelevant to what he does going forward under circumstances that are radically different.

At this point, his motivation may well be to minimize future losses and to operate in a way that is cash-flow positive. He can begin to do this after the end of this season, when much of the legacy dead weight of player's contracts evaporates (and a break clause in an onerous 5-year contract for a manager may be triggered). From that point on, the salary cap would allow him to generate positive cash flow that could, among other things, be invested in improving the infrastructure and pursuing a longer-term, organic return to being a successful club.

It's what I would do if I were him.

Lovely theory until you remember that we have literally just brought 4 new players into an already bloated squad in the last month...

Four loanees in, four loanees out, so close to a wash, and only for four months. A very cheap way to appear to be 'doing something'. My expectation is that ITFC will be in limbo until the end of the season.

I think he wants to succeed, but is incompetent at doing it himself, and is incompetent at employing the right people to do it for him.

Loan deals like this are not cheap. Harrop and Thomas alone were expensive deals, another two added to basket yesterday.

He is unfortunately backing the wrong jockey. We have a great horse now, with a jockey that takes it the wrong way around the track.

Keeping Lambert proves he’s clueless. Would be chuffed to be proved wrong but we’ve got no chance with him managing us.

3 of the loanees out are Ndaba, El Miz and McGavin who will be on the smallest of contracts - bringing in Matheson, Parrott, Harrop and Thomas is clearly a different level of expense. The idea that Evans would sanction those sorts of signings if he wanted to stay in this division is just nonsense

When you bring in a loan player you do not pay their contracted wages, you pay whatever you negotiate with the parent club. This can be very low, especially if the parent club wants them to gain first-team experience. (There is no way that we were paying Luke Garbutt $25K/week last season!)

Well yes I know that, but it’s quite obvious that we will be paying a higher salary for those 4 players than we will be saving from the players we’ve allowed out on loan. Which again, rather flies in the face of the theory that Evans has no interest in promotion, as if that was the case he clearly wouldn’t sanction it when we already have a massive squad with which to tread water in this division

Given that Harrop and Thomas were generally in the first team squad at Barnsley and Preston I would expect we are paying a very decent chunk of money to have brought them here.

Why must we go over this over and over again?

If Evans just wanted to keep us in League One, he could be doing it a hell of a lot of cheaper than he is right now.

He derives no benefit from remaining in this division.

He's not sabotaging us. He's not even cheaping out on us. He's just not good at running a football club. That's the whole thing.
