They're just great aren't they?

Yes 9 wins, 2 draws, 10 losses is not a great record. But they're newly promoted, and performing without probably one of the most vocal support in the country.

Critically though, have they been involved in a bad game this season? Its just such an exciting brand.

The reason the games are so good - as Calvert-Lewin stated tonight - is that every team has to raise its game to match Leeds relentless tempo. So they're always a ding dong.

Great model for the game going forward, and definitely a contributor to a compelling Premier League season (a welcome distraction from our plight).

Surely they're going to fade later this season? how do you keep that press and tempo going.

Dear Paul - please give us some tempo!

I agree completely. They might lose games, but their fans know they’ll give games a real go regardless of the opposition. I was wondering whether our ‘walking and pedestrian’ brand of football would work against them? 🤔

Although bizarrely, I seem to remember that high-tempo pressing was Hurst’s intention and perhaps justified the addition of lots of mid-20s athletes while our existing young players were squeezed out.

The fact we never came close to it shows that it’s not just a physical challenge but you need players with the nous and the organisation/communication to play it as a unit.

I don’t remember us doing much pressing under PH’s management, similarly to now we struggled to create chances. I’m probably one of the few that think the summer clear out can’t come quick enough, salary cap or not. We need to get rid of a lot of our squad and start again, but equally we need a manager that has a plan and structure to know the type of players needed to achieve success. So that appointment is going to be crucial.

On a side note, Villa vs West Ham last night was a great game. Two teams actually having a go, playing intelligent passing football and mixing it up when they need to.

Comparing it to when we were playing CB passes to CB passes to GK, passes to CB for 2 minutes, then hoof up top to no one; I can't believe it went on for so long.

Yes Villa and West Ham are two teams adding to what is thankfully a very good Premiership this season.

Grealish has been outstanding. And it’s great to see a Championship player in Watkins make the grade.

I was thinking about West Ham yesterday, their fans were in full revolt against their owners until fairly recently, far more toxic than it’s got here towards Evans (Lambert quite rightly taking the brunt). West Ham fans now loving manager and team - Antonio just exudes work rate. And that new (Czech?) midfielder is outstanding. Good to see Cresswell still holding his place, though he was on the way out.

As you say both teams mixing up the intricate passing and more direct play, but always with tempo.

Soucek is the Czech lad. He doesn't look like your stereotypical footballer, but he's been quality for them.

Agreed regarding Grealish. A think it's a testament to how well he's been playing that Moyes played two rightbacks so they could cover each other. I kind of hope he stays at Villa for the whole of his career.

Yep, a real breath of fresh air.

So nice to see teams outside of the traditional ‘big 6’ willing to have a go in every game. See also -Villa, they’ve been great to watch too.

It is difficult to assess a team from the highlights but watching the first Everton goal (and all the replays) a bit of a forgotten football buzzword came to mind. Pedestrian is the term I would use for the Leeds defence at that point, and they were not much more combative for the second goal either. Although it looked like they had put that right in the second half.

I was also intrigued to see how worried Ancelotti looked when the camera rested on him for a few seconds after each goal. Perhaps he knew that, despite unlocking Leeds a few times, it was going to be difficult to keep his side of the tactical game up. But I also think that Bielsa spends too much time looking thoughtfully down at the ground in the technical area - who know what nuances in the game he misses whilst he is doing that?

Re the summer clear out. My big worry is that under ME, every time we have a clear out, the standard of replacement is of a lower calibre.... and so the downward spiral continues. It never seems to improve and in fact a level of deterioration seems to prevail, that surpasses the previous.

Might as well cut out the middle man/men and just look to launch it long straight away. The pointless passing around at the back going nowhere and not really moving the opposition out of the position seemed utterly ridiculous especially when we all know the long ball is coming.

they are great to watch. also you never hear their manager moaning about the refs etc.
people say dirty leeds but most of them were in short pants when they were last in their pomp. most of us oldies who were in their late teens in 67 onwards remember a great side, who could play football.
they had some hard men in their side, but so did every club at the time. it was the london press who smeared them , because they were a northern club., and it stuck and still today kids who never saw them play , still say dirty leeds.

forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows

I won't lie that would be my concern too BrightonBlue, ME's track record isn't much to hang your hat on either. He's got one right before, lightning can strike twice apparently....here's hoping.
