Well somebody had to say it 12:54 - Mar 14 with 6334 views | GlasgowBlue | It seems bizarre that after being one of the more cautious home nation leader's during the pandemic that she should suddenly speed up winding down the restrictions faster than in England, despite having a higher infection rate and an increase week on week in infections.

Well somebody had to say it on 15:36 - Mar 14 by gordon | The question is more whether it reflects a real increase in the prevalence of the virus, or whether actually it's a result of more asymptomatic cases being detected from the roll out of large-scale asymptomatic testing in Scotland's most populous city. |
You're not allowed to offer context, you just have to look at the raw number and wag your finger at the SNP.

Today - new cases 484, 7 day average 579.1, new deaths 2, 7 day average 12.7 A month ago - new cases 903, 7 day average 860.6, new deaths 4, 7 day average 39.6 Today: Percentage of tests positive 3.3%, 7 day average 3.3% A month ago: Percentage of tests positive 7.3%, 7 day average 5.5% Today: Percentage of Scottish population with first jab 34.6%, second jab 2.9% A month ago: Percentage of Scottish population with first jab 22.4%, second jab 0.3% Today: 'R' rate in the range 0.6 - 0.8 A month ago: 'R' rate in the range 0.7- 0.9 Holyrood give me the impression of being cautiously optimistic about getting back to something like normal, as a population I think we desperately need both that hope and some cautious moves towards it as a signal of affirmation; and finally, I do not think the First Minister has been that slow about re-introducing lock down measures, if necessary, so far. But hey ho. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 14:01]

In fairness to you, it is indeed interesting how Sturgeon and the Scotish govt seem to be able to skip over criticism of this sort.

Well somebody had to say it on 15:12 - Mar 14 by GlasgowBlue | Like Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance, Devi Sridhar only advises the government. She does not have the final say or make the political decision. Her sex is irrelevant. As is that of the First Minister. Devi Sridhar also said that if pupils were to return to school then other lockdown restrictions, such as parents meeting each other, would have to stay in place until Easter at the earliest. This advice has been ignored by the FM. We are now allowed to meet people from other households outside as of last Friday. Teaching Unions are heavily critical of the FM sudden announcement. Normally on TWTD, that would be met with support for the unions and disdain for the politicians. |
I appreciate you're probably frustrated that the public enquiry into Sturgeon isn't producing the outcome you hoped for, but this all seems a bit too desperate. It really isn't clear what point you are making - you seem to want restrictions in place for longer - fair enough, but if so, it would be useful for you to explain what you think the public health justification is, so we can see where you're coming from. Also think the bit about Devi Sridhar's advice being ignored is just disingenuous nonsense, I'm afraid. https://www.thenational.scot/news/19107806.covid-scotland-devi-sridhar-backs-cau [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 16:10]

But you're misrepresenting what she meant - she's always been really clear that outdoor activity, exercise, and socialising is pretty much fine: She is definitely not worried about non-contact sport starting again outside, trust me! It is partly her influence that has meant that Scotland is ahead in loosening restrictions in outside spaces. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 17:35]

I was being completely honest. Hospitality business. of which I own two, will be able to open indoors on April 26. In England, my businesses' would not be able to open indoors until May 17. "When could pubs and restaurants reopen? The First Minister has stated that hospitality could resume from 26 April, should data suggest infection rates are continuing to fall and phase one of the vaccination programme be completed successfully". https://www.scotsman.com/health/coronavirus/when-will-pubs-bars-and-restaurants- I think I understand my own business more than you. Non-contact sports and organised group exercise Scotland March 12 Meeting people from other households outdoors Scotland March 12 Communal worship up to 50 people Scotland March 26 All before England? That was not her position one month previous. “We also need to tell parents not to mix, otherwise schools will have to shut again, because one of the issues is when schools go back parents have more time, and they end up mixing more.” FFS It would be easier just to edit Nicola Sturgeon to Boris Johnson and get completely different responses to this thread. Edit. And having read the tweet you linked she is talking about people out exercising. Not the new rule that two households can now mix. We've been able to do that since the beginning of lockdown. And you had the nerve to accuse me of being disingenuous. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 17:56]

In Scotland it'll depend on what tier each area is in and what changes are made to the tier system. It will also depend on the trajectory of infection levels in the coming weeks. In short, nothing is certain as yet. Hence the calls from the hospitality sector for some greater certainty.

When Sturgeon announced the road out of lockdown on 22 February she said that she expected all areas currently in Tier 4 to move don to Tier 3. Of course it will depend on the data. Just as the date for England on 17 May is dependent on the data. Scotland expects indoor hospitality to open on 26 of Aril, data allowing, and England expects indoor hospitality to open on 17 May, data allowing. Will you now concede that Scotland is easing lockdown measures earlier than England?

This nonsense could destroy somebody's career. Devi Sridhar set out her scientific reasons for the phased return of schools - do you agree with her or not? If not, state why? You are well aware of the problems faced by woman in STEM - many have recounted their issues this week. Reading back what a wrote probably does come across as an accusation of misogyny, not intended against you Glassers, if you took offence, I apologise. She expects, that doesn't mean that will be the case. She also said there would likely be tweaks to the tier system and we don't yet know what that'll entail in terms of hospitality. Last time under pretty much all tiers there were significant limitations placed on hospitality around opening hours (indoor and outdoor) and when alcohol could be served. So we really don't know yet when things will reopen, where they'll reopen, and to what extent. Hence the hospitality sector calling for more clarity. Schools reopened partially more quickly than in England but that's because Scotland was ahead of England by a few weeks in getting the curve down (you continually ignore this point by the way), however England has reopened schools fully now and that still hasn't happened in Scotland.

My wife and I were able to visit her mother earlier this morning, spending time in her garden. If we lived in England we couldn't 't do that until 29 March. I can go back to my local exercise group tomorrow if I want. I couldn't do that in England until 29 March. I could have joined 49 other God botherers in communal worship at the local church this morning of I was so inclined. Again, I wouldn't be able to do that if I lived in England. I honestly cant see how you are holding this line that Scotland isn't easing lockdown restrictions faster than England. And I' at a loss to see why you are siding with the government against the teachers union with regards to the reopening of schools.

Devi Sridhar I don't know personally just interested in her approach to zero covid first proposed by Yaneer Bar-Yam (fellow complex systems researcher), I guess I'm using colleague in the broadest possible sense but scientists have to stick together against fanatical zealots like yourself. How is your critique of Ole's work coming along? - surely you can do better than copying other academics, maybe explain your understanding of non-ergodic variables. Didn't you suggest periodicity to the frequency of pandemics? Just a point of order, we have had "brain dead", "hard of thinking" and "nutter" from your recent posts, maybe you find it hard to construct arguments but as pointed out by another poster you're descending into a pound shop Hampstead.
