So unless we are gojng down the route of cast offs and freebies some of our fans need to wait a bit. More so if we are looking to use the money from the odd player sale.
We need to up our game in the coaching dept. Too many youngster move up to the first team, with promise, then progress tails off not long after. If we are to emulate other clubs as Ashton has said then we need to not only develop our own, beyond mid table L1 at best - but improve those more establiushed players who join.
I was surprised to see Bournemouth held up as an example, as their youth development (into regulsr first team) is virtually nil. Thire PL position has been bought at a very high cost in debt, and was never going to be sustainable.
For us, we have an enormous amount of catching up to do. When we have clubs like Fleetwood, Accrington and now Cambridge and Morecombe competing with us then it has to understood that something has gone wrong very badly with us. Clearly we didn;t have 'one of the strongest squads', far from it.
However, we do now have what looks to be a far stronger set up at the club that suggests we will finally be able to recruit and develop the right players. No one one season Charlies wheezing out their last few games or permanent sick notes who put in more hours in the treatment room than on the pitch.
I don't expect everything to come right straight away. Having Cambridge as our local game with P'Boro and the scum above us in higher leagues is one painful reminder of how far we have slipped.
However if we start to see progress in the pitch, see fans encouraged back and there is a buzz about the place again then I'm happy to let things take their time - but that progress has to be noticable, right across the board.

The incredible thing is, we've gone from 0 structure, to having possibly one of the largest in the league in the space of a few months.
Get player recruitment spot on, plus the return of supporters.. 2021/22 should be one hell of a year. |  |

Perhaps due to the nature of some - but by no means all - of the free transfers which have happened in the past (when we were, ourselves, in the Championship). Also, this year is unlike any other in having so many players out of contract due to the knock-on effects of the Covid crisis. |  |
