Is there a dead rubber in the Euros? 4 points pretty much gets you to round 2, and 3 points gives a fighting chance too. In that situation no one is really out until the end of their final game. Hit round 2 and it’s big hitters all the way.

Not many are out but plenty are already through.

When the Euros was down to the best 16 teams it was generally regarded as the hardest to win. Unfortunately as usual the people with the power have decided it needs to be changed for the worse.

The European Championship was at the peak when it was eight teams. Even at 16 there were always 2 or 3 sides making up the numbers, but it was a good format and worked fine. Now the tournament has been watered down so much there is a lot of dross. Having third place teams qualifying is also a terrible idea, it leads to weaker sides playing for low scoring defeats against stronger teams as goal difference can be vital.

Wait until the World Cup becomes 48 teams and it'll be the even worse. a tournament which should never have been expanded beyond 24 teams, 16 was perfect.

Poll: Would you support a permanent return to the old yellow Town badge?

Copa America, no San Marino Gibraltar or Luxembourg games at that level.

South America's World Cup qualifying is definitely the hardest - even the 'poor' teams on the continent are difficult away from home, playing Venezuela in 40 degree heat or Bolivia at 3600m above sea level. They all play each other home and away in a mini-league format to qualify, so no chance of an 'easy' group either.
