First team players training with the U23s 12:24 - Jun 23 with 4081 viewsRadlett_blue

Doing this to players like Downes, Dobra & Jackson is an interesting way of trying to get full transfer value for players Cook apparently doesn't want. Can we see a list of those down for first team training?
Cook is going all-in and if we don't have a good season, hard to see him lasting long.

Depends what PC 's ideal squad size is.

He may only want 15-18 first teamers. Then top up on jan. Then next summer if needed.

Theres the options of loans and of course our Academy to add to the squad if needed. I dont foresee us signing 18 new players.

will he be here next summer if he still needs players by then to add to a team ?

he might be lucky to get the final few pieces of his jigsaw together in the Jan window, but if we are still looking for replacements this time next year it kind of implies something isnt working still.

Not sure what the issue here is when you break it down

Dobra under 23, likewise Lankester - time to prove themselves pre season?

Downes - Bishop probably off

That leaves Jackson and Kenlock, which I think most posters have mixed views on

I'm guessing that even though we all knew what was going to happen, it's still a bit of shock when you see it in black and white. Especially when there are players on the 1st team list who have looked worse on the pitch than some of those we've let go or who've been put in the reserves.

There's a very big danger we're over thinking all of this though. And as you say, there could well be room for players in the U23 list to knuckle down and make a case to be included in the 1st team squad.

It's probably not helpful or useful to have these lists circulating in the public domain. I can't imaging the club are too happy about this.

Downes is a slight surprise unless he’s really agitating to go. I guess that means we’re looking to bring in two left backs but personally I think Kenlock is good enough as a back up.

Could argue we’ve treated Jackson shabbily - we could have let him go but instead we took up the option just to dump him in the under 23s. I sense Ashton/O’Leary and Cook might be working on different lines regarding him.

Agree on it being good seeing Woolfenden there.

Disagree with your comment about Jackson. We took the option as it’s believed we can get money for him. It’s a decision that puts the football club as the priority. Listening to Alan Lee, it’s the kind of decision that the club should be making and hasn’t been in the recent past due to a lack of accountability.

Personally I hate this - smells of Hurst-type willy-waving. The man better deliver quickly.

Holy
Nsiala - Woolfenden - Ndaba
Donacien - Evans - Nolan - El Miz - KVY
Burns - Norwood

Subject to change at the manager's discretion (probably after the very first training session of pre-season...) I have absolutely no problem with PC doing this - he had a few months to assess the squad, and if he felt the players lacked the ability, hunger or durability you need to be in a promotion winning team, or lacked the commitment to play for either him or the club, then he's going to want to bring in players that he can trust to do what he requires.

Phil's article is an absolute bombshell.

To be under a week away from Pre-season and there are only 11 players in the first team dressing room... is just whacked out

Yes Downes, Kenlock, Jackson and Bishop may well leave but they are proven first team players... and surely the remaining 11 players need someone to actually train against.

Are we assuming the 11 will train with the much larger U23 group? but different dressing rooms.

One things for sure - Mark Ashton needs to fix what looks like a basket case - is to sign 9 players very very quickly.

Players inbound. Don't think the wait will be long for the next 3
