The first day back run 11:49 - Jun 28 with 3300 viewsb1079blue

Under Burely I am sure the payers used to run form the ground to playford road on the first day back. Do i recall correctly and was this a tradition before and after Burely?

Used to be the picture on the back page of the Star every pre-season.

Knowing how the EADT works it was probably the same picture every year.

Was it Elsworthy, Philips, Leadbeater etc?

I was at Orwell Park for a few years and don't remember any of them training there so probably RHS. Was in the same year as Fabian Wilnis' daughter funnily enough.

Just had a look and they were there in 2003 and 2006. May well have spent time there on other occasions but probably not more recently than 2006 or I think we would have mentioned it.

The Town squad are continuing pre-season training at Orwell Park School in Nacton this week. Absent will be a number of goalkeepers who will instead spend time at Malcolm Webster's annual keepers' course in Staffordshire. 0

Pre-Season Begins 26th Jun 2006 10:29
Town's players officially begin 2006/07 pre-season training today. Many of the squad have already returned to the club to work on their fitness after injury problems. 0

Running from the ground to Gypeswick Park was definitely a thing. Can remember it being used from Robson to Burley, my mates Dad, an east ender turned blue back in the early 60’s, chatting with John Lyall at the side of one of the now gone pitches as the lads trained. 4 pitches on that park when I was a kid, none now.

Those days need to be over. We have a whole squad of whom nobody knows the way to the training ground. They'd set off on Monday morning and never be seen again.

There is an infamous story about how a Premier League manager took his players out for a run on the Saturday morning before an away game...and the team got lost near a motorway.

It played a significant part in him getting sacked.

Is that right? Can't seem to remember that one but wouldn't surprise me!

And others got blisters or generally knackered and bruised their feet just a few weeks before the start of the season.

Not the best idea.
