Didn't Wilder do something similar at Sheff Utd?

You may well be right. I know PC was looking at making such an appointment even after he knew Leam Richardson was staying at Wigan but obviously opted for the different make-up in the end, maybe due to the inexperience of the three coaches. It does allow him to bring someone else senior in at some point in the future if he feels it's necessary.

Maybe keeping his powder dry in case Leam’s permanent appointment doesn’t work out?

I know he was looking for one after that situation became clear, but it probably not unlikely they could link up again at some point in the future.

Could there be anything in John McGreal's rather abrupt end at Swindon? Would tick a lot of boxes if he was willing to be an Assistant. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I don't think that was ever on the cards. They're good mates and he was up the training ground a few times but McGreal wants to be a manager and Cook was after someone who wasn't going to be off as soon as something else came up. I'd expect McGreal to look for another job as soon as. He came close to jobs last season, Stevenage being one of them I seem to remember.
