Does all seem a bit unnecessarily divisive, but I'm far from qualified to comment. I've never been able to get my head around the division and tensions over there.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Commemorating a battle 331 years ago between a Dutchman and an Anglo-Scot (the former being son-in-law of the latter) over the throne in London, backed by troops from France, England, the Netherlands, Scotland and Denmark. There were Irishmen there, too, many of whom, among the infantry, had been conscripted.

2 days before the Boyne there was a smaller, lesser known battle 2 miles to the north on pallet hill, just above the burning Tyre fire river? You have to respect their crazy made up culture Gorm

you do have to admire their pallet stacking skills.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I just see 1000's of would be compost heaps going up in smoke, as well as a lovely dose of carbon for the atmosphere.

The Catholics also have Bonfires - in August.
Those bonfires celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, the day when the virgin Mary ascended to heaven, which is a rather benign reason compared to the Protestant celebration of the Battle of the Boyne.

However, Protestant bonfires burn the Irish Tricolor and the Catholic bonfires burn the Union Jack.

Completely unnecessary act not unlike the Orange marches that seem to exist only to piss off their neighbours.

Utterly pointless on every level.

Edit: including a waste of all that wood and as for the emissions!
