Funnily enough, it’s their jobs.
For the Talking Town lot it’s nothing but an ego trip.
I could be wrong, but I think the EADT and Phil do have other info that they are potentially holding back after what Ashton said and trying to maintain the relationship the media and Ashton has. I’m certain Phil, Stu etc have info that they are trusted not to make public at this present time.
But as for the talking town lads, as the post above me says, they will have a pop at the journalists as they are ‘doing their job for them’. When in reality, as you say, they are just some egotistical jumped up lads with nothing better to do.

Very unlikely since Ashton said at least 5 (before Piggott) and most fans think we are light at LB (we are known to be after Coulsen), CB (Gibson), WM (Jacobs, Celina) and no 10 (Crooks).
We may not land all our targets, there will be others in sight if these do not come in.
The comment could have been in relation to the start of the season, rather than the close of the transfer window. It could have been a generalisation rather that taken literally.
Ashton said in the interview with Kings of Anglia podcast, that he has four options for every position we are seeking and had 24 players being discussed.
Leaves open the possibility of signig further players after the season has opened. Further options (including loans of Prem youngsters) are likely to be come available towards the end of the window, in the last days of August, as higher clubs name and adjust their squads.
And we will use the free market post-window i'd suggest to top up the squad, as there are going to be a lot of players without a club.
