Covid-19 is so very far from over 12:41 - Sep 9 with 2963 viewsWeWereZombies

Just had my occasional squint at Johns Hopkins University's worldometer and shocked to see that the United Kingdom is now fourth in the cases to date table:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Whilst I appreciate that our vaccination programme has given us a resilience I can't help feeling that post viral fatigue and other long term complications are going to hit us hard in the coming years.

[edit] yet again I thought I had typed out a 'the' and it came out as 'teh'

I'm sure the data from Russia is trustworthy.

At least 52% of people trusted Russian information in June 2016...

No idea, a quick Google has only shown up Russia admitting they had the third worst Covid death toll last November. They may just have purged any reference to unreliability from the internet...and the minister too...

Thanks for that, the Deputy Prime Minister is a bit more credible than Russian officials. If the BBC were saying that deaths from Covid in Russia COULD be as high as 186,000 last December then the John Hopkins University number of 190,376 as of now could well be many thousands below reality. There again, as I mentioned in an earlier post, excess deaths in India probably far exceed any other nation over the course of the pandemic but how many of them are directly attributable to the virus we will probably never know as the culture demands burial or cremation too rapidly for postmortem confirmation even if personnel were available for such a demanding task.

Comparative data is useful but carries dangers not only of over reliance on figures garnered from differing regimes but also from thinking 'we're not the worst so everything is alright'. My recent weeks in the south east of England and travelling back to the north west of Scotland has me thinking that urban England and the central belt of Scotland have become woefully lapse and unguarded in Covid-19 precautions with the conclusion that we will all be paying for this with an extended Christmas and New Year lock down at the very least.

Is there a clear breakdown of cases of those double jabbed vs no jabs?

I think I saw this morning that 11% of adults have had no jabs.

The no jabbed make up 75% of the deaths despite only being 11% of the population.

You do the maths.

Think your second paragraph is on the money. I recently had to make an unplanned train journey from Ipswich to Wales, including the tube. It was a real eye opener to see the majority of those travelling not wearing masks or observing any other precautions.

3 areas in Scotland have the most cases per capita in the whole of Europe. East Dunbartonshire has gone crazy.

I agree. I think people are just sick of not even talking about it but thinking about it. There may well be another lockdown but firstly the Government coffers are already recked so it's unlikely to have any type of fiscal backing (enhanced furlough, VAT deferral etc) to make it restrict any type of economic activity.

Secondly, the people who don't wear masks and generally don't observe any measures, are unlikely to adhere to any type of lockdown restrictions and finally the government have no creditability to enforce any restrictions.

So as always it's the thoughtful who'll pay the price. Ie the people who still have the app and isolate when advised to, the people who generally observe the strict letter of lockdown restrictions by not shouting 'I'm in a bubble' with anyone they fancy boozing with.

I know that was then, but it could be again..
