To reach 90 points we need 08:45 - Oct 3 with 4093 viewsBluefish

22 wins
14 draws
0 defeats

Or a even more wins and less draws if we have some defeats. What a spectacular failure this season has been, no matter what the team looks like he can't get a tune from any of them. We are still cluelessly lumping to an isolated striker

If people kept telling you it's fine to run across a busy road with your eyes closed because 1/10 times you get to the other side unharmed, whereas others pointed out you'd get hit the other 9/10, which set of people would you think are taking the sensible approach to the subject?

0/10…. I’d go ask loads of others until 1 told me to walk to the crossing and use that

We’ll be good again... one day

Yep, and yet some of the fans who describe that as us fluking a play off place are some of the same fans who are rigid for Cook. Incredible really.

I had this on twitter yesterday when a fan said he would be happy to forfeit this season to get the team to gel, it really is incredible to think fans are happy with this. I know it might only be 10 games in but performances are the same as last season, last season Cook said there will be no more performances like this next season throwing the players under the bus last season, yet same performances this season. You cannot criticise Cook as he has taken clubs up before in this league, his previous record with other clubs means nothing now. I'm sorry but if results continue surely we must replace Cook. I don't think we would be any worse with Gill in charge now

People think promotion is possible because with the sqaud we have relative to other sides in this league it should be possible. If it genuinely isn't then Cook should go now as he's already failed.

Absolutely, and I feel the same. I just don't think it's realistic to expect promotion when we've given everyone else a near quarter season head start.

Just sounds like a considered opinion based on where we are at the moment and the fact that this fan believes in the current manager and his aspirations for this season have evolved as he's thinking long-term? Good on him.

You seem quite prepared to switch manager to someone else mid-season which many will view as risky too? Who's correct?

My view is that we're close to that being the case but not there yet. With 36 games left there's still enough points to play for that we can make the top 6 at least and go from there. If in another 5 or 6 games we're continuing to bumble along not picking up enough points then at that point I think the season will have got away from us.

I think most are just trying to support the club and see what happens game by game rather than trying to be 20 steps ahead with some odd statistical power play. Who knows what will happen in the next few games and what is the point in trying to compare our potential points haul to that of 1992!? Football isn’t that linear. Last season we were effectively in Wigans position today for goodness sake. Just chill out and see what happens because you and your little book of historical statistics won’t sway Mark Ashtons thinking.

75 points is potentially touch and go, it's usually enough but you do get seasons where it's not. The fact we need automatic promotion form from here to scrap 6th shows just how disastrous our start has been. I'm surprised how many are still ardently supporting Cook in that context.

Who is ardently supporting Cook? The vast majority of people can see that it is not going well. Just because people come to a different conclusion on what should happen next does not mean they disagree on the facts.

Exactly. Some folk on this board adopt a truly bizarre siege mentality. A select group all hunkered up together fighting a nonexistent fight.

to me it already feels like the season has got away from us, because it requires such a fundamental turn around on form to get us back in that position, its not winning the occasional game at home kind of form, or going more than one game without losing stuff, its back to back to back to back style victories the kind of thing we havent seen for years, its breaking club records from 40 years back kind of form, the kind of win ratio had it been maintained all season and not just for 3/4qtrs of it youd be getting promoted as league winners kind of form.

is it possible, of course, anything is possible, but is it realistic ?

We got 85 points under Royle back in 2005 and got 86 and 87 points under Burley in 1999 and 2000. We need to match that kind of form over our remaining games to make the play offs this season. It should be possible given the quality in the squad but there's so little margin for error now after this start.

But showing some chill is ACCEPTING we are happy with the current situation! you have been told this Mr Sanctimoanious!

20 years in the championship.
