Yes, getting things done indeed.
The open corruption of this Government is only eclipsed by the electorate's complete apathy towards it. How this Government can continue to get away with it is unbelievable.

If you’re in politics for the money, you’re there for the wrong reasons. After all many of the current Tory front bench (and those behind them) don’t need the money at all due to their family backgrounds, Eton education and city careers. Ask yourself why THEY are in parliament and there is only one conclusion. Self interest.

Exactly So put the money up (I’d double it at least) and attract a higher calibre of person

I can’t see it making any difference. They already get paid more than the vast majority of people so the money incentive is already there. Even if a higher salary would attract better people, they wouldn’t get a look in in this govt. Competence isn’t a requirement.

The money incentive isn’t there, it’s 80k a year. They got paid sod all compared to a GP or a local solicitor or a Chief Exec of a big council. It attracts all the wrong people, people who want power to enrich themselves or justify their stupidly expensive education to mummy and daddy. Someone like Patel or Gove wouldn’t cut it in the private sector or the far more competitive local authority sector. Pay them properly, with expenses, and you’ll see genuinely talented interesting unusual people in government in no time.
