Wins v top 10 teams stat 19:16 - Oct 31 with 2208 views3_5_2

Karl Fuller has tweeted that since we have been in L1 we have played 41 games v teams who finished or are in the top 10.

We have won 6. Yes. 6

32 points out of a possible 123

That is just awful.

Our biggest problem is our form in the second half of matches.

Scroll down to the bottom and you will see we would be undefeated away from home if games ended at half time.

Cook is being out though and outfought tactically.

And last season he explained it with lack of fitness. It is a big concern for me. It had improved but, unless we can continue to maintain that improvement against the better sides we are now facing I am afraid it will be curtains for Cook in my opinion.

The worst case scenario for me is Cook does just enough to hang on without it being enough for us to haul ourselves into contention. I still maintain that we need 10 points from 5 matches this month. That requires us beating at least 2 sides in the top 6 (or 3 if we fail to beat EDIT: should read Crewe not Charlton).

That would be my prediction for this year, we bumble on with the odd eye catching result and just enough to keep us in the purgatory of not being good enough to achieve anything it bad enough to make a change.

I don’t think the Three Lions and Ashton will make the same mistake as Evans did.

What part do you think the games against Oldham & Colchester will play.?

Losing to a team containing players he wasted as they weren't good enough would surely count against him.

Colchester game will mean nothing in my view - bar another stick to beat with if things have gone badly elsewhere

Oldham the same really - if we lose to Wycombe, then get dumped out of cup then it doesn't look good for him.

Cups are just not important to us as a club it seems, although talk in Fans Forum was that FA Cup would be so who knows.

Backed himself in a corner by saying he would love to play Norwich in third round.

Yes, and if you look at the same stat for just this season, it's a whole lot worse!

(And presumably it's worse for just Cook's period than for the total period, but I don't have that stat to hand).

We’d have 1 more victory to add to that had Alan Young not decided to rewrite the rules of football against Wycombe in 2019 and maybe a further win at Oxford had the referee decided to give a penalty for Norwood being pulled down rather than deciding that two wrongs made a right because he hadn’t pulled Norwood up for a foul 10 yards outside the box.

Still, coulda woulda shoulda - The Ipswich Town L1 Story.

I don't think we're the only team with bad luck. The truth is that our under-performance relative to budget was bad last year and the year before. This season it is inexcusable.
